Causal relationship between thyroid dysfunction and hallux valgus
Hallux valgus is commonly referred to as a bunion. The paper is complex - but the take-home is that there is a genetic relationship in at least some patients between hallux valgus and hypothyroidism. Another one to add to the list... Causal relationship between thyroid dysfunction and hallux

Magnesium for RLS
Merry Christmas! While I've said the below in various Replies, I thought I'd put it in a post. I've been taking at least 400mg a day of magnesium citrate for some years now, since I had it recommended to me by a relative: 600mg a day initially stopped my RLS within days, and 400mg a day (the amount suggested

This is about not being able to eat with hypothyroidism.
Could you please help me with low stomach acid. I have hypothyroidism and gluten sensitivity and maybe Hashimotos or something else my doctor said. My antibodies are 31. I can only eat carbohydrates due to chronic pain eating anything else. This has been like it seven years and the doctors show no interest

Mild Heart decease
Hi All By chance I have found out I have mild Heart decease , 65 calcium score , but my cardiologist says the blockage in my LAD is too small to give a percentage, therefore is a calcium score not necessarily related to the blockage amount, I have not had a heart attack , passed all the running test

Complete change over in GPs is causing problems
Hello Everyone. I was just wondering how people are faring with their GP Surgery? Mine all the GPs have left except for one. It has become very difficult. The surgery insisted on some blood tests. Receptionists rang me said I need to see a doctor as my liver markers were up. Given I'm only 2 weeks post

Atorvastatin and MS
Hello and happy holidays. I have a quick question related to statins and MS. Has anyone been prescribed Atorvastatin and experienced increased muscle and joint pain. Would be interested in hearing others experience with statin drugs and its impact on their MS symptoms. Thank you.

Taking statins while on Pred.
About a week or so ago I reported more aches and stiffness than usual and was putting it down to coming down too quickly off Pred, and a doctor's view that I could 'tough it out' It became so bad I phoned my friendly better doctor who suggested it may be because I had finally started the statin med

Advice needed ref statins
Hello all I have had PMR since May 2020, initially on 15mg pred and tapered down to 4mg by April 2022. Then got Covid and everything went a bit scatty. Returned to 10mg and have been tapering, currently on 7mg moving towards 6.5mg. In the meantime my blood pressure has risen and recent blood tests

PAD after Pmr
Hi, I just wanted to share what's going on as I've been so worried and upset. I know I've no right to be, I'm fine compared with many of you, but...So I've nearly come to the end of my Pmr...although I don't like saying it in case I jinx it and it flares! I'm on .0.5 pred, and feel fine apart from being

Clopidogrel causing duodenitis?
I've been taking clopidogrel, amlodipine and statins for years now. Over the last year or so I have developed inflammation of the duodenum, confirmed by endoscopy. The consultant wrote "duodenitis caused by clopidogrel" on his summary of findings. However, since then doctors have declined to go down

Statins and IBS C
Hello I'm 76 and have had IBS C for 15 years. Recently I've been doing better which I attribute in part to the Nerva App and which I think is worth trying. However, I have now been prescribed statins for my ever increasing cholesterol and I see that one possible side effect is muscle cramps and

Statin Use and Survival Among Men Receiving Androgen-Ablative Therapies for Advanced PCa: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
New study from Canada. Laurence Klotz was a co-author. Yet another meta-analysis, but appearing in JAMA might help get the message out. "Twenty-five cohorts of 119,878 men (65,488 statin users [55%]) with more than 74,416 deaths were included. "Concurrent statin use was associated with a 27% reduction

statins
I tried to post this yesterday but can’t see it anywhere. Is there a statin that doesn’t have increased blood sugar as a side- effect? I’m on atorvastatin 80 and am told I’m pre- diabetic. So I’d like to change, if I still have to take the awful things.

Statin Use Is Associated with Better Prognosis of Patients with Prostate Cancer after Definite Therapies:
A new meta-analysis of statin use and prostate cancer-specific mortality [PCSM] and all-cause mortality [ACM], below [1]. The analysis included 24 studies with 369,206 individuals. It has been known for a century that solid tumors accumulate cholesterol. That may be reason enough to initiate statin
