Synacthen Test
Hi, I received a letter from my Rheumatologist saying that my cortisol levels are normal following the
Synacthen
test
2 weeks ago. It says it is now safe to stop taking steroids. My question is, as i have been on steroids for over 5 years should i just stop or continue reducing.

synacthen test
have written this already so may appear twice!!! Has anyone had this test? And if so, were you advised against taking your pred beforehand? App is at 12.30 and I usually take pred with breakfast. Am on 3 mgs. Doesn’t say that on the hospital letter!? Has anyone found it useful? Arranged by rheumy!

Help with short synacthen test results
I originally posted this on the thyroid section of this site, but there appears to be some good experience of the short
synacthen
test
here too, so I hope this is ok.

Suboptimal Cortisol levels following Synacthen test
My rheumy suggested a short
synacthen
test
via Endo which was 8 months later. I barely function on 5mg with doing bare minimum, giving up my small flower business (exhausted) and thankfully can do do stimulating occasional voluntary work, I barely go out as energy to talk.

referral - why?
Apparently my
synacthen
test
showed a normal basal level and a post of 432 - suboptimal but near normal. However the endocrinologist said he was “unsure whether it would be safe to convert to hydrocortisone “! The rheumatologist replied to “switch to hydrocortisone 10,5,5 mg tds”!

Drug to Stimulate Adrenals?
But she did say that if his adrenals hadn't woken up, and I gather she was going to order a
synacthen
test
, that she would prescribe a drug to awaken them. Now I have read on here that there is nothing to awaken an adrenal system except time and patince - people's thoughts?

Basal Cortisol Test Result
Do you think it is reasonable for me to ask for a
Synacthen
test
when I speak to my GP? Has anybody had a
Synacthen
test
and was this because your morning cortisol test results were between 100 and 400 nanomol/L? Any advice would be gratefully received, thank you.

Help understanding short synacthen test result
This has led me down the path of seeing more endocrinologists and ultimately, to taking a short
synacthen
test
to rule out Addison’s disease / adrenal insufficiency.

Short synacthen test results
I had a second SST in June at the insistence of my endo, and have been meaning to post for comment. My results were:- 8.55am 245 nmol/l 9.25am 592 nmol/l (Adrenal insufficiency indicated by cortisol <440 30 mins post synacthen) I am aware that my starting cortisol is fairly dire, although my GP

Synacthen test
I’ve received notification from the Consultant Rheumatologist that “it shows a slightly suboptimal response with a post synacthen level of 432. Normally the cut off is 450. It is borderline “ She then tells me she is happy for me to taper from 5mg to 4mg for a month and taper again to 3mg when she will

Adrenal Insufficiency or GCA or both?
I am thinking of asking for a basal cortisol
test
, what do you think? I did have a
Synacthen
test
which was fine but that was a year ago.The other thing I have experienced recently are frequent headaches which can last all day. They are not particularly severe and affect my forehead mainly.

Synacthen Test Results
Hi everyone, just looking for some clarification on a
Synacthen
test
I've had. Bit of background, 36M, pretty healthy in terms of diet, exercise, sleep etc. No medications. I've been suffering for a few months with fatigue, heart palpitations. Seems to get a lot worse after exercise.

I am quite pleased with that but the NHS guidelines state: "For 9 a.m. cortisol of 100-400, consider a short
synacthen
test
".

Rheumatologist advices no reduction of prednisolone while adrenal glands not working and has issued emergency hydrocortisone kit
After six weeks of methotrexate, my rheumatologist decided I should reduce the prednisolone to 4mg and have a 9am cortisol
test
and then a
synacthen
test
. My score was 88, which indicated adrenal insufficiency.

Synacthen Test Result
Hi allJust recently got result from endo. Obviously it rules out Addisons which is good and I responded to the inj. The second blood draw was actually done 40 mins post administration but I'm assuming that wouldn't have affected the overall result too much. However I know my baseline blood cortisol is

INSULIN TOLERANCE TEST - Low cortisol & chronic insomnia
I’ve had a Short
Synacthen
Test
, which I passed as most thyroid people do. So I now know the problem doesn’t lie with the adrenals. I presume it’s with the pituitary. I have read about the insulin tolerance test. I’ve tried to research it myself online, but would love some advice here on please.
