I have the appointment on Thursday and am really worried in case they won’t give me
steroids
and another holiday will be ruined because of my plodding walking and aching body. Has anyone else been given
steroids
when they’ve had a negative blood test??

MART (maintenance as reliever therapy)
on the montelukast as there’s a slight risk of making it worse in that department and we’re not big fans of doing that but in theory we might have to if that makes sense as when I was on it it did benefit me and I had less flare ups but this has been my worse one in awhile and the last time I was on

Struggling to reduce, despite slow descent
I am feeling pretty despondent about where I am going though I know the
steroids
are valuable and my only option to make life manageable. I developed PMR symptoms in March/April 2022 and was given the diagnosis in May by a rheumatologist who I saw privately.

Good PMR specialist in Bristol/WestonSM?
He says I am too young - I’m 56 - and he’s run every test in the book on me (MRI, PET, chest x-ray, ultrasound) and all negative ( though I was sure they would be, given that I was on such a high dose of
steroids
.)

Nervous changing from Prednisolone to Hydrocortisone
Adrenal gland isn’t working so I doubt if I can get off
steroids
entirely anytime soon. Anyway spoke to my Endocrinologist the other day and we discussed trying Hydrocortisone as an alternative to see if I felt any better in my general well, health which isn’t great.

How long can a asthma episode last?
She had 10 days of
steroids
and 10 days of antibiotics for a chest infection. As you can imagine she is shacking. We have been to the doctors twice, oxygen level been good at 97. I mentioned if they just gave her a NEB the wheeze would go but as we all know they don’t give NEBS anymore 🙄

Fracture Risk
***Moderator addition: please keep in mind as you read this thread and the replies that while inhaled
steroids
can have some side effects, not everyone will be affected, and
untreated or poorly controlled asthma is also very harmful and can be fatal.

Has anyone heard of Parsonage Turner Syndrome? Out of interest.
I don’t believe I have PMR anymore, despite the discomfort and exhaustion, but am completely stuck on
steroids
. It’s going to be very difficult to reduce. I tried 7mg one morning and my body missed that 0.5mg . I know 7.5mg isn’t covering my needs but am trying to live with it .

Asthma Appointment
The worrying thing for me was that she told me I'm taking
steroids
too often and that I could develop diabetes and is refusing to prescribe me another rescue pack.

Just manage the exacerbations with a short course of oral
steroids
. it seems still that not many people are offered this medication, not many professionals seem to have heard about it either, which is why I am sharing my experience of taking it on here.

Steroid-based inhaler warning
**Moderator note to anyone reading: if you have similar concerns please speak to a medical professional - don't stop your steroid inhaler or any other
if you're worried about adrenal insufficiency. It's dangerous for both adrenals and asthma.

Tinnitus and high dose inhaled steroids
Does anyone know of research into high dose inhaled
steroids
and tinnitus. I have heard anecdotal evidence from people with asthma, but haven’t found anything online. I’d be interested because my tinnitus came on very suddenly and coincided with a change to higher dose steroid inhaler.

Thank you and update 🙂
Having been up and down trying to taper off
steroids
which was very hard my consultant has agreed to keep me on them for 12 months which I’m over joyed about as they’ve helped me so much, wish they’d agreed to them years ago. Rash on my face has gone, I’m going make up free!

Wound healing thoughts?
No-one here wil be suprised to learn that no doctor has examined it, and the practice nurses who've done the dressing have no advice to add in relation to
steroids
or my general health. Any thoughts, advice, tips would be welcome Thanks x
