ANOTHER FEV1 AND FVC QUESTION! SORRY!
Hi Everyone! Can anyone help with this query. I have googled and asked but cannot find an answer! I had my first ever spirometry test 2 days ago, I am 49 and a smoker. Test was arranged as I have episodes of waking in the early hours with wheezing or coughing although pretty much ok at other times of

Walking with 'Di and Ama' part2
http://www.swlakestrust.org.uk/lakes-and-facilities/the-lakes/siblyback-lake Two weeks ago today I said I would walk an extra mile each day up to '3 Peaks Day', and then attempt to walk 3 miles in one go - one mile for each mountain. This is my way of acknowledging the tremendous effort and achievement

Bronchitol
I saw Tyniesha's post on this so thought I would update everyone. Bronchitol has been extensively trialled in the UK and I was on the bronchiectasis trial at the Brompton & am now getting it on compassionate grounds. It's amazing! I haven't had a single chest infection in the 2 yrs I've been on it

Please tell NICE your views on this wonderful new therapy to help clear mucus
Dear lovely people Inhaled mannitol (brand name Bronchitol) is a new inhaled powder therapy which liquefies thick, sticky mucus in the lungs, enabling it to be easily coughed up. This can greatly benefit people with congestive lung problems eg cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. I have asthma+bronch

Can FEV1 improve after stopping smoking
My husband had a FEV1 30% January 2011 when discharged from hospital after an exacerbation. He stopped smoking then :) This year January 2012 when admitted to hospital following a not so bad exacerbation his FEV1 was 49% when discharged. So what I would like to know is it the stop smoking that

Hello to my fellow sufferers of COPD.
Hello. I am Derek and used to be a member of NHS choices until they closed down their blog. I also write my own copd blog and am pleased that seems to have helped many people. It took on a life of it's own and there is lots of information to be gleaned from it. I am treasurer to my local Breathe

Piko issues
So my new Piko arrived today. It's even smaller than I thought which is great. Problem is, I can't get the damn thing to work properly! 1) I can't seem to set the FEV1 zone. Managed the PF but every time I do what the manual says all I can do is reset the max PF, not the FEV1, and it has some odd ideas

Where can I get information on PEV and FEV1
I am trying to work out if I have asthma or an allergy. To prove this I have purchased one of the mini peak flow meters (Piko-1) and will monitor my peak flow and my FEV1. I would like to get some more information on what these readings are and there must be a reference chart saying what are the ranges

confused
Hi all, I was hoping someone could explain to me in simple terms what this means. It was written on my daughters report from her consultant. FEV1 at 2.3 litres was 71% predicted, FVC at 2.83 litres was 87% predicted. The flow volume loop was a little scooped consistant with obstructive airways disease

Bad ABGs when no having an exacerbation?
Does anyone else have bad ABGs even when not having an exacerbation? It's been a few months since I had PFTs done, they were good, but at the time I was on prednisolone. Normally w/o pred (couple of year ago anyway) my FEV1 is low 80's and my MMEF is 20's-30's. Anyway, my recent ABG's were pH - 7.35

very confused any help appreciated!
Hi, I have spent the majority of this year in hospital with my asthma and chest infections/pneumonia, the last time i was admitted they managed to stabilise my asthma over a week with a combination of magnesium, aminophylinne and a stay on HDU for CPAP. Once i was stable enough to be on the normal ward

Does FVC vary?
I know there was a discussion not long ago about lung fuction tests, and somebody helpfully gave this link: http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/40002357/ However, what I am still a little confused about is which numbers are variable and which are not? I know peak flow goes up and down, but should the

spirometry results help to understand them!
hiya my asthma has been fairly awful all year with a hell of a lot more time in hospital than out of hospital! I had some spirometry tests done at the beginning of my admission but was too poorly to ask for results. I know the ones in the middle of my admission were better but not sure what they
