Report about Prostatectomy
Hi guys Since I last wrote, I had a robotic
prostatectomy
, and just today my catheter was removed (much to my relief). Obviously haven’t had my first PSA test, but I thought I’d update you on the results from the operation. They weren’t as good as I’d hoped: pT3, N0, M0, GG2, PSA<10.

Moving on to Provenge
Now - for some history - I was do in 2007; Gleason 9; Open radical
prostatectomy
; at removal it had escaped the capsule, was in surrounding muscle wall, HP the neck of the bladder, seminal vesicles, and in 2 of 15 lymph nodes tested. Had been on intermittent ADT from that point.

"Prostate cancer lives as it is born" question (Radiation resistance)
My question is: Do you think this rapid psa increase would have occurred like this if I had done the
prostatectomy
or was this rapid increase caused by the radiation - maybe the cancer is radiation resistant or maybe the radiation escaped into my body (outside the prostate capsule) from the brachytherapy

Low testosterone
My PSA is undetectable for over a year (following a radical
prostatectomy
followed by radiation). I’m still having serious incontinence and ED issues. I’m still not sold on another surgery and having something foreign in my body that may need to eventually be replaced...

Cancer Free 13 Months - Wish to Stop Lupron This October (Will Be 2Years)
I have had a
Prostatectomy
in 2018, 10 doses of Radiation and 6 doses of Chemo in 2019. I've been cancer free since October 2019 and I wish to stop my quarterly Lupron shots this October. My Dr suggests I continue taking Lupron for the rest of my life.

PSA Surge on Zytiga
In 18 years of my battle, PSA never above 4.5 after
prostatectomy
. Met with my MO PA last week at Mayo Phoenix and she said let stay the course another 30 days then do scans. I have had a few bone mets for 3 years but no significant increase in size.

Lifestyle - diet, exercise, stress reduction sure seems to make a difference
“In those who have undergone a [cancer] recurrence, PSA typically tends to rise exponentially after
prostatectomy
or radiation therapy, reflecting the gradual, inexorable growth of the cancer in the body.

What Action Should I Take?
Add to that the
prostatectomy
I started all this with, which more than anything else I’ve done I wish I had considered more carefully. I wasn’t given a hard sell by the surgeon by any means; he was very clear that radiation had at least similar efficacy.

The efficacy and safety of radical prostatectomy and radiotherapy in high-risk prostate cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
For your consideration........recent update...... https://wjso.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12957-020-01824-9 Conclusion here...... RP seems to offer better OS but inferior results for CSS and biochemical recurrence. Brachy boost may perform better in all aspects. I think Tall_Allen has already

Post-op pathology
Looking for any positive thoughts following my robotic
prostatectomy
. My pre-op stats were: PSA 26 Gleason 8 Bone scan- negative MRI negative for spread outside of the capsule. However, my post op pathology shows 3 of 10 lymph nodes were positive.

ADT with Radiation? Also which type of Radiation?
I had my
prostatectomy
on June 3, 2019. I had been under active surveillance starting in 2014. My PSAs typically ranged in the 5s for three years until it got to the low 6s in the fall of 2017. Finally it broke out of the low 6s in November of 2018 when it hit 7.
