Cancer and Me (Etc)
I've never written a blog before, so please bear with me. On the 19th December last, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer and non small lung cancer , both completely separate types. I was 71 years of age at this time, very fit, I thought and healthy. No thoughts of cancer. On the 12th January, 2012

Today is my birthday! I am counting my blessings!
I am 72 today! The stoma is settling, the backache is tolerable (just) it is not actually raining, symptoms are minor, it is not raining, I am going to see my friend who has Parkinsons, that always reminds me how lucky I am, then I am meeting a friend for lunch, my gradsons are ringing when I get home

Colostomy - The Truth
Hi, I am 33. Last April (2011), I received laproscopic surgery for endometriosis. I had a 5cm cyst on my ovary and everything down there was so stuck down that they couldn't even see my fallopian tubes. I was also diagnosed with infiltrating endometriosis, which basically means it is in my bowel too

Does anyone else who has an ileostomy have to take Magnaspartate sachets for low magensium?
Because of the ileostomy which I've had for 18 months I suffer from low magnesium. I take 1-2 magnaspartate sachets per day but because they cause diahorrea I feel they do me more harm than good because soon after I take them I then have a couple of bags full of pure liquid poo (sorry if tmi!). It's

Help Needed on Ileostomy, for Mum 71
Mum had an ileostomy 2 weeks ago, has now been discharged from hospital but is having trouble getting things to thicken up if you know what I mean. She had a good day yesterday and only had to empty the bag 3 times, but so far since last night it has gone back to being all fluid. Any help on diet salt

Mum 71 told the worse then given hope, Help please?
My mum,s caelyx treatment was stopped because of hand and foot syndrome about 4 weeks ago. She was told there was another drug they could use but had to get funding from PCT and to come back in 8 weeks 5th April for the result. For 2 weeks she was back to normal you would not have thought there was

Taxol
Hi everyone I finished my second line chemo (carboplatin/taxol) on 16 February and go today to see my oncologist about the results. I know my CA125 was still 177 by the end of the 5th chemo so I'm feeling slightly apprehensive about what I'm going to be told. On my third chemo the taxol was reduced

Does anyone out there has an ileostomy because of their ovarian cancer?
I have joined the Ileostomy Association but although I have had lots of very good advice and help, no-one seems to have their stoma because of ovarian cancer. I have a very active, high-output stoma and find it all a bit exhausting although I try to stay positive and as it is not reversible I have no

Mature teratomas - has anyone had any joy with anti-hormone injections shrinking tumours?
My daughter had a 20cm mature ovarian teratoma removed last May. she has since had her appendix removed (the tumour also contained a carcinoid tumour so the appendix was removed because it is one of the first places carcinoid goes), some lymph nodes in the pelvis, a second smaller mature teratoma from

Hi! I need help with alternative treatments for my mother who has done chemotherapy and radiation already.
She was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in June of 2008 and underwent a hysterectomy and a round of chemotherapy after that. She went into remission for a bit and relapsed, and this cycle continued another time until she had to have another operation to remove a tumor near her cervix. She then
