ostomy frequency at night
I'm an Ostomate since 2010, 66 years old woman and wheelchair bound . I can't do much for myself , but learned to change my colostomy pouch with one hand . Because i'm only got liquid output i don't sleep much at night for fear of accidents . How can I overcome those problems ?

Sometimes it's ok just to be a patient
The British Medical Journal just came out with a heading that should have all patient’s jumping for joy - Let the patient revolution begin. As one of those patients who talks tirelessly about how important the role of the patient is in healthcare I was definitely one of those smiling when I heard about

Are Patients from Mars and Health Care Professionals from Venus? - Part 2
Having been told I was a nutty blogger type by the doctors in Part 1 I have to admit that my confidence took a little knock. I have subsequently though met with the chair of that strategy group who has vowed to ensure that patients really are at the heart of decision making. His vision helped restore

Hi i had surgery on March 6th this year to remove most of my my stomach and lower half of my Oesaphageous i had complications and infection.
surgery went well intially but then complications set in and i had further surgery (shark bite under both arms) and have been left with a stoma bag on my rooftop wound on my chest, has anyone else had the problem of a leaking wound at all?, recovery is very slow and pushing my chemo/radio further back

Surgery
I am having laparoscopy through left side of abdomen due to extensive adhesions. If tumours look benign and it's possible then they will be removed along with remaining ovary and cyst on left Fallopian tube, however consultant doesn't think this is possible and is of the belief I must have laparotomy

Just popping in for a few minutes(and hospital update 25th April)
The following is part of a reply I sent to a friend on here after she kindly messaged me to see how I was. So I have put my reply here(and added bits in where necessary) so you all know why I have not been around. I have been doing a few replies tonight and I will try and do a few more before I sign

liners
I have been talking to a gentleman in Canada who sells liners for ostomates, they are used inside the pouch, apparently are easy to use and reduce smell and also they are thrown away so the stoma is not emptied, the liner is removed and flushed away, they mean in the US that pouches last much longer,

My life with an ileostomy from the start
I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2002. It progressed quite quickly and by December 2005 I was virtually housebound because of incontinence. In March 2096 I haemorrhaged and was admitted to hospital. I was given high dose steroids for three weeks in an attempt to get the UC under control but

Awaiting endometrial ablation and excision of endo surgery has anyone else found this to have helped?
Hello, I saw my consultant yesterday and discussed further surgery options, seems I don't have many options as my bowel and uterus are stuck together so can't have the hysterectomy I'd hoped for. I'm now awaiting to have endometrial ablation and removal of adhesions on ureters along with endo removal

Has anbody else lost most of their small instestine to ovarian cancer
I have 3.3 ovarian cancer and I am in remission (yay, after a year of chemo). As part of the surguries I have lost most of my small instestine. I have experienced two serious bowel obstuctions but I cannot be operated on any more. I have to eat very low fibre, low residue food and very small amounts

My Journey, as promised!
Dear All! I promised an account of my journey so far to help, if I can, others to put this awful condition in perspective so here goes! In 2009 I was approaching my 69th birthday and enjoying life working 3 days a week for CAB. I was running an outreach centre twoo days a week and overseeing the

Dear daughter's results from op
Good morning lovely ladies, Dd had her op on November 9th and we went up to the RM yesterday for the results of the biopsies that were taken and to find out exactly what was done at the op. A fairly big (no dimensions given) endometriosis cyst was removed and found to be full of old blood when opened

The Stomach that got away
In October/November 2011 I was diagnosed with Barrett's Oesophagus which, shortly after, changed to confirmation that there was a cancerous cell present within my oesophagus. Following an attempt to get rid of the lump endescopically, it was decided that a course of chemotherapy would be required
