Tocilizumab
Does anyone have any experience of having been given this drug (by intravenous infusion once a month)? Used as steroid sparing agent. also ... does anyone have any blood tests results for Plasma IL-6. (Cost seems to be same as CRP but more sensitive to extent to which Prednisalone is working).

Advice needed
I have been on Laxidu powders 1 or 2 nightly following.a bowel cancer scare some years ago which luckily turned out to be diverticular disease (not diverticulitis itself). I now hear that they can cause problems such as hoarseness etc. Does anyone have any info regarding this.

What to buy OH for Christmas
As Christmas is looming again I thought I'd tell you how to bring back that childhood feeling of the excitement at being faced with a pile of presents not knowing what you were about to unwrap. I don't know about anyone else but now that gifts are often requests rather than surprises Christmas has kind

Giant Cell Arteritis and Mycophenolate
I am a 64 year old male who has suffered from GCA for 6 years. I did manage to get down to 3.5mgs of prednisilone a day although would have relapses. My new consultant was keen for me to have a scan to see how the inflammation was behaving however that then really set me back. I had to come off my drugs

Younger age GCA data?
I've just bought the new collection of articles by Dasgupta and Dejaco, 'Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis', published by OUP last month. I was very disappointed to see on the first page of this brand-new book that the authors state in the 'Preface' that PMR and GCA are 'exclusively occurring

Hello everyone, Several people on this forum have said some very kind things about the book I published a couple of years ago - Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis - a survival guide. Right now I am working on the second edition. Mostly for the 'patient experience' bit I was drawing on

Eventful and frustrating few weeks.
For about ten days one or other of us had gastro
enteritis
! Managed to both have it for a couple of days in the middle of the ten days and lost over 6lbs! A bit of a dramatic way to get rid of the extra lbs!

New Research from USA about drugs and GCA-- some of this s quite technical but a lay person should be able to follow the gist.
Tocilizumab plus prednisolone was twice as effective as placebo plus prednisolone at inducing complete remission in patients with giant cell arteritis (GCA), and four times as effective at producing relapse-free survival in a small, phase 2, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Patients

NHS public consultation on Tocilizumab in GCA
Tocilizumab is one of the new generation of 'biologic' drugs which are being developed to treat a range of diseases, including inflammatory autoimmune conditions, like GCA and PMR. It has been used in a small number of GCA patients to see whether it could help reduce the risk of relapse and help reduce
