Therefore, there are used drugs that either increase synaptic
dopamine
release or inhibit its degradation (selegiline). Another useful drug in Parkinson’s disease treatment is levodopa, which acts as a
dopamine
precursor.

As the vast majority of patients with Parkinson's do not carry rare familial mutations, a key question has been why these individuals with common sporadic Parkinson's nonetheless acquire excess alpha-synuclein protein and lose critical
dopamine
neurons, leading to the disease.

Shake up your little world and listen for a minute
It floods you with
dopamine
, but
dopamine
breaks down into toxic "metabolites" and kills a few neurons for good measure. And you seldom hear much about the fact that other neurotransmitters are low in PWP even though they have nothing to do with the neurons of the substantia nigra.

By bypassing the
dopamine
system altogether, a glutamate-based treatment could provide the same symptomatic benefits of levodopa while avoiding disabling side effects such as dyskinesia (uncontrollable movement). The Vanderbilt team has focused on a specific glutamate receptor called mGluR4.

Interested in a TV show about a politician with Lewy Bodies/?PD?
Lewy bodies myself as my movement disorder neurologist had hinted when I had my first but so far only hallucinations after he had augmented my total
dopamine
medication intake.

New info
., Parkinson's disease is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system marked by a loss of certain nerve cells in the brain, causing a lack of
dopamine
. These
dopamine
-producing neurons are in a section of the midbrain that regulates body control and movement.

Hi
See, for instance, the online side to side tap test at: http://www.parkinsonsmeasurement.org/toolBox/sideToSideTap.htm Sometimes the only way to get the data is to build something, e.g. forced exercise of the arms (using two mixer drills), or to make something, e.g. liposomal

Medications and food to avoid, applies to most of us who has RLS. This is taken from the www.rlshelp.org website..
Reglan (metoclopramide) is an anti-nausea agent that is also used to prevent reflux and has significant anti-
dopamine
activity, so it should be avoided.

DR B REPLIES....... NEUROLOGISTS OUTCOME
You are already on a high dose of Mirapex (Mirapexin) and are developing augmentation (worsening of your RLS from taking a
dopamine
agonist like Mirapex) which means that increasing the dose will only add fuel to the fire.

Azilect and Wellbutrin
I think my husband is in need of an antidepressant and I have read that Wellbutrin is one of the ones that may increase
dopamine
. What other ones are you taking and how are they working for you? Thank you. This community is a blessing and so are all of you.

Dropping in again!
I have to take those for a month and then go back and we will start on the parkinson type
dopamine
drugs. He was very understanding and I think he has been researching stuff since I last saw him. So we will see what happens. Sometimes though I can't see the point of anything.

I wanted to share this infomation, made the pain thing a little more understandable for me
Cramps, contractures, stiffness and rigidity all can usually be treated with a combination of optimal
dopamine
replacement therapy2 and exercise or physical therapy. Central pain syndromes of PD, however, require something more than standard treatments for PD.

Has anyone here tried the herbal dopamine, Mucuna pruriens, and, if so, how much are you taking and how are the results?
I have asked my Park Dr. about it and while she is not informed about it she would not be adverse to my trying it as long as I have been on traditional pharmacuticals first so we would have a basis of comparison. She also said she wants me to purchase herbals and supplements from western Europe as they
