Memory & muscle recovery time post Statin medication
I suffered a heart attack and had a quad bypass in Sept 2009. I was diagnosed with FH and commenced taking statins which I did until Nov 2012. During this period of statin medication I suffered terrible memory loss and muscle ache problems. I tried six different statins and they all had the same negative

useful info on risk in familial hypercholesterolaemia.
This is a really helpful study to take a look at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2563208/ It shows that the risks of familial hypercholesterolaemia differ HUGELY depending on which gene mutation is involved. FH isn't one condition, it's a collection of different gene mutations which are

Cholesterol results still high after 12 months.
My cholesterol has gone from 7.8 to 7 with an HDL 1.4 and LDL 4.5. My cholesterol has always been 6 something for about 20 years and at the time the nurse said it was okay? I always eat a very healthy diet, having a sweet treat sometimes at the weekend. I eat plenty of fruit and veg. I refuse to

Elevated cholesterol but no signs of inflammation?
I have closely followed all the debates about statins, and sugar vs. saturated fat, and am a believer that the pharmaceutical industry has vastly overplayed the benefits of statins. I have been on statins for the past eight years, but decided to give myself a break from them, and came off them for seven

My moods are Up Down Up down
Very down today. This chest infection is really dragging me to the depths and now the Practice Nurse after the results of my blood tests tells me to get my cholesterol level down from 5.3 to under 5. Consultant told me in May to eat to put on weight. Seems I can't win. Even on the low fat diet I could

Fed up of being messed about by the NHS
About a year ago I had a couple of nasty skin infections so I went to the GP for antibiotics and she ran a comprehensive set of tests. As it was before christmas, I didn't bother ringing up for the results but went back because I still had a boil and saw a trainee GP who told me my cholesterol was 8.2

Cholesterol still high, why?
Despite following all the rules about diet & exercise, my LDL levels are 4.5, & my HDL 2. I can`t understand why. I`m female, 61, non smoker with a family history of heart disease, & I`m scared stiff despite the practice nurse telling me that it`s no big deal. I tried statins, but they didn`t suit me

Spoke to soon!
I posted last week that my cholesterol was down to 4.5, well i had an appointment with the practice nurse yesterday, & she said that was just the LDL level. My overall cholesterol is just as high as it was before, & now I`m despairing of ever getting it back to normal. The nurse said that it`s nothing

" pieces of good news this week.
Yesterday I went to an appointment at my local hospital for a pre-op check up before I have a rectocyle operated on, & I won`t need a general anastheatic, just a local, & some sedation. I`ll have to stay in overnight because I won`t have anyone to keep an eye on me after the sedative, but that doesn`

Spreading the Word
I have just come back from a GP appointment to get some more cholestagel. He asked if I would mind speaking to a fifth year medical student and he left the room. What an opportunity to tell the next generation of doctors about statin side effects, risk versus benefits, the disparity of genetic testing

Coconut Oil, Lauric acid, and Cholesterol
There had been several posts in the past few months discussing benefits of large doses of coconut oil for relieving portions of PD symptoms. One of the issues that has come up from time to time is the question of the impact of taking a large dose of the saturated fat in coconut oil on one's overall health
