Ammonia smell in my nose.
Hi,I have recently been getting a very strong smell of ammonia in my nose. It's putting me off food, my face seems puffy and skin very dry and my weight has increased. I take 150mg of levothyroxine for hypothyroidism and take stelara for my Crohn's.

Visit with new Hem/Onc Dr went well!
Hi Friends, I had my first visit with my new local doctor. He is Associate Head of Stem Cell Transplant Dept with Ochsner in Louisiana. He does not treat any cancers other than blood. He listened and verbalized understanding that my previous Dr’s were not a fit for me. He reviewed my BMB from Vanderbilt

Did you all have this blood test. I have looked at my blood tests for 2 weeks time and it is included prior to my appointment so I think my consultant is being thorough maybe. What reason would she do this test for? Could be due to persistent Leukocytosis as well. Remember I'm not diagnosed with anything

Lactase tablets
Hello folks, So I was just wondering if there's any difference in quality between different brands of lactase tablets or if they are all pretty much the same? I seem to have developed lactose intolerance - I excluded, then reintroduced and excluded again and it didn't leave much room for doubt. Haven't

What comes after FODMAP diet?
I'm on my 5th month of forced FODMAP diet. I really did a number on my stomach. I was always having problems with constipation. I always thought it was part of the FM and ibs together and just having regular food intolerances, such as gluten and soy. I bought some kefir drinking yogurt and it worked

Looking for a good diet for weight loss for cirrhosis possibly using my vitamix using fresh fruits and vegetables and soups
Hi everyone, I am on a quest to help my son lose weight for his cirrhosis. He recently had to go on a medication to help control ammonia levels. So they took him off his diuretics. This has caused a significant weight gain for him in a short period of time. His weight is up to 317 right now and we are

Hepatic Encephalopathy - Alzheimer’s Type II Astrocytes
I’ve not posted anything for a while due to ill health, so here is hopefully some “food for thought”. This is for information only. For a while now, I have been concerned about the lack of understanding of some healthcare professionals when it comes to Hepatic Encephalopathy. My personal experience

Hi All, I stupidly managed to 'gluten' myself (basically used the wrong toaster), but I haven't got better, its been 2 months now, and I'm in still in quite a bit of pain, and getting a bit worn out. I stopped all my supplements, Iron etc over a month ago, and started taking PPI's again, but the problem

Brain Fog, possible HE, Cirrhosis lethargy
Hello all, first time poster. I’ve not had blood drawn yet as with Covid I’d like to stay away from hospital settings as much as possible living in a cramped room somewhere in Brittany, France. I’ve been alcohol free for a year after a good 20 years of abuse floating this way and that, 45 year old woman

Hey all! I’ve been battling many deficiencies for a long time. Last year while taking glutathione, all of my memories disappeared, and I was completely numb. No emotions, no memories, no thinking, difficulty in making new memories, no awareness, altered consciousness etc. My nervous system was shutting

Lactose in Thyroid S
I have just switched to Thyroid S from Armour, and I am not doing so well. Tired and aching, plus the bloating is back. Thyroid S contains lactose though, so possibly why because I am intolerant. Will taking a lactase enzyme at the same time as the Thyroid S affect absorption? Thanks

GFR bounces up and down creating new lows.
My GFR went down to 15 in June after sitting at 26 for 3 months. Dr said it was something acute. It went up to 39 while hospitalized during my Fistula placement ....(a whole nother story!) But 4 days later it is back down to 26 and now 20. When it was at 15 I began smelling ammonia and my heart was begining

Rural Air Pollution
In our small rural adjacent norfolk villages, we had, a couple of weeks back, an incident whereby the whole of the communities were pervaded by a hugely strong, powerful and intolerable stench (described as like domestic oil or paraffin) which filled the air for the best part of the day. It was reported

Graves’. Carbimazole over corrected. Low T4 now. Is it ok to take a short break from Carbimazole before restarting lower dose?
I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease earlier this year in the spring. It responded quickly to Carbimazole. My dose has been tweaked quite a few times. Latest dose was 10mg twice a day. After being on that dose for a month now my latest bloods show my T4 is too low (7.4). My TSH was non-existent before

Bad breath and taste
Hi! I'm stage 4, GFR 20-24, BUN 34. About 2 weeks ago I started getting the ammonia breath I've heard about and my mouth always has a bad taste...almost rotten taste like garbage. My tongue even burns a bit. My dentist says my teeth are fine. My neph says I shouldn't have this until stage 5, but I
