Has anyone posting here had chemotherapy while having CKD stage 3/eGFR 45? This is facing me and I am worried about getting through it without significant further damage to my kidneys

Hi Esperanta! I did end up with chronic kidney disease due to dehydration I suffered just prior to diagnosis with OC. So we were very concerned with how my kidneys would deal with the chemo. Mostly they were looking at my creatinine number from the blood work - it was persistently above the normal range. I had a referral to a nephrologist who started me taking daily magnesium and vitamin D, and over time increased the doses of both. A couple of times I also got IV fluids to help with hydration - that also relieved some of the fatigue. Now, four years later, my creatinine has finally come down into the normal range. I still take the supplements and eat a diet rich in vegetables, as well as drinking lots of water throughout the day, and I still check in with the nephrologist about every six months. I'd say, don't worry too much, but make sure your kidney status is being monitored so they can give you some advice as you go through the added stress of chemo. Wishing you success in your treatment! Thanks Deb for the encouragement and reassurance. I have noted your advice and will have questions to ask the oncologist this Friday 21st.
