Has anyone heard of this new machine tat targets bone Mets? Has anyone been referred for it. It’s been FDA approved and opening around the country

I don’t know if we will get it here or when because there’s things we don’t have access to here. I asked about a PET scan earlier this year but the bc nurse said it’s no good with my cancer -ER+ bone Mets only.

This new machine is designed for metastatic cancer and oligopoly cancer too.

I know that’s the case in America as I’ve read so many comments about it. At the hospital I attend PET scanning is done in the area where radiation therapy is done. And restaging and investigational scanning is done two floors up. Sometimes there’s no bookings available on the second floor so I get sent to the ground floor labs so, as there’s a PET scanner there, I asked why I couldn’t have that done instead of a CT and bone scan. I was told it wasn’t suitable for me. That’s all I know about it 🤔

There’s lots of things I read about here and I know it’s not available to me. Not yet anyway but sooner or later it probably will be. But you’re right. We take what we can get. 😊

This is exciting! I googled it and found this site, that includes a phone number for referring patients for consideration of their clinical trials. From the article you shared with us, I am wondering where the 11 sites of these machines are! Traveling to California's Bay Area wouldbe hard for me and probably alot of us. If anyone finds those 11 sites, please share them with us!

Good question! It was approved for marketing. Maybe it was approved as a device rather than a medical treatment? A serious problem with FDA approval is that the criteria are different for medical devices vs. medications. Devices usually do not have to undergo the extensive clinical trial testing that medications do. I am just guessing.

Here is what their promo says:

"We already had FDA clearance to market our X1 machine for delivering conventional radiation therapy to patients with solid tumors anywhere in the body, but this new clearance applies specifically to SCINTIX for the treatment of patients with lung and bone tumors that “light up” with a particular PET tracer called FDG. These tumors may arise from primary cancers or from metastatic lesions spread from other cancers."

Maybe it didn't need more scrutiny by the FDA because it just locates the target. Then standard radiation therapy (nothing new there) is delivered to the target. Their goal is to get it adopted and used for more types of cancer and to become standard of care.

No. What's the machine called? I have mets between my L-3 & L-4. They tell me it's cause ing a narrowing of the spinal processis. I'd like to ask my oncologist about it.

I've had spinal stenosis (narrowing w/pressure on spinal cord) at L4-L5 and mets there, too. The stenosis was never diagnosed before the cancer and that pressure plus meds has caused neuropathy, so I strongly recommend seeing an orthopedic dr or a neurologist if you onc doesn't address this. Surgery by a neuro-surgeon might help.

Yes! Thank you for the tip. They DID refer me to a neurosurgeon 4 years ago who prescribed PT, but my Walmart medical insurance only covered a limited number of visits. Maybe now that I'm on Medicaid, I can get another referral. It may be too late for PT though.
