Hi there! My Mom is starting on a trial and fulvestrant after over two years on Ibrance and NED. She now has solitary liver met. No symptoms.

Dear Pups2Cute---Please know that for so many of us, Fulvestrant has worked so well. Personally, I have had no side effects. I've been off all cancer meds since Spring when disaster struck. I will be starting up Fulvestrant again, the week after next. What is the other med that your mother will be taking? Will they be starting at the same time? How old is your mother, if I may ask?

Dear jersey-jazz, thank you for the feedback it’s truly appreciated. My Mom is joining a trial here in Canada. My Mom will take fulvestrant along with either placebo or med. She is in otherwise good health and is 77. She looks much younger. It’s great to hear about so many people doing so well on Faslodex.

Hi. I’m not on Fulvestrant, but I did have liver mets. I’ve had a liver ablations twice now to zap the active lesions and both times it was successful. I am once again NED. I dont know if an ablation woukd be an option for your mom, but thought I’d share the info just incase. Best wishes to you both.

Yes, my Mom’s oncologist thinks that monitoring the liver met is best for now. Her liver function is good and all her labs are normal. We were surprised that she had anything show up in her last scan in May. NED is such wonderful news and music to our ears right? Best wishes to you as well!

When I was having the Faslodex injections, another patient suggested I get a can of Cold Spray for the nurse to apply before the injection. Helped me a lot with the pain. I purchased via Amazon. Hope this helps! ♥️♥️♥️

I get the lidocaine spray for my Fulvestrant injections as well. Onc office has it available, at least mine does, just ask. You shouldn’t have to purchase.

Yes, my cancer center had it when I first started, but then stopped offering it. So I bought my own from Amazon.

I have been on Fulvestrant only for four years. I have a liver met and the tumor has been stable. My labs are in the normal range. So far so good. The only side effects I have are soreness and itching for a few days. But this doesn't happen every month. Good luck to your Mom

thank you for your support! I’m so happy you are doing well on Fulvestrant. My Mom’s labs are good as well. She has sciatica and is concerned about the shot affecting that but otherwise she is pumped to start a new treatment. Right now the transition has been stressful and my Mom is looking forward to getting on a new schedule.

They have to be careful when administering fulvestrant to stay away from the sciatic nerve. The injection should actually be given in the hip. American nurses tend to use the butt. Not a good idea. Also, it should be warmed before injection, and administered slowly.

TammyCross, thank you. This is good to know. I’ll be with my Mom for her first injection and I’ll be sure they are aware of this. I’m sure it can mean the difference between lots of discomfort and a manageable tenderness on injection site.

Best,

April

I never could convince nurses they were administering it in the wrong place, risking hitting the sciatic nerve. I brought articles. At least they moved a little over toward the hip.

I learned from people here to warm it between my thighs.

One minute per injection. Yes, it makes all the difference.

Hi ! I read people complaining about the pain receiving the Faslodex shots. It only hurt once. If the nurses make sure to warm the Faslodex to room temperature at least, and take their time injecting it, I find it doesn't really hurt at all. I choose to have the two shots at once, one nurse on each flank, at same time. I call them " tag team ".😄

I wish her well on Fulvestrant. I find it very tolerable and it has been effective.
