hi everybody ,I have had a problem with my eyes , they are watering and I could see black squiggles and dots at the side of my right eye, I was told by the optician to go to A&E, my eye s normally water with the side effect of meds , but the squiggles concerned me , good news is , it’s nothing to worry about 😊, she said it’s a retina problem , something to do with the gel at the back of the eye, it’s quite common as we get older , I was so relieved , just thought I would share my good news 😊😊😊😊

Don't know how old you are, but floaters are extremely common as we age. I have a lot of of them. You learn to live with them after a while. Once, I got a big black blob in my eye. It slowly started to dissolve, kind of like a drop of black oil in water that became a bunch of floaters. Unfortunately, there's no way to make them go away.

Hi , I am 62, I didn’t know it was so common until I experienced a lot of black squiggles , I did get the odd floaters but not like the black squiggles and larger floaters , I can imagine seeing a big back blob being scary , I felt relieved once I had it checked out at the hospital

That must have been such a relief! I am a big reader (former Librarian, as you might guess from my forum name!) and couldn’t bear to lose the ability to read. Glad you got good news.

It's fun to read a post about something that turns out to be benign in this group! 😀 Years ago I woke up and it was like there was a piece of window screen across my eye. Turned out it was a tear in my retina - easily fixed with about 30 seconds of laser, but worried me at the time. These days I get a lot of floaters, but I'm used to them. So glad your problem was easily explained.

So glad you got some relief! I have a problem with inadequate natural oils getting to cornea, makes my eyes hurt when opened, determined by Duke Eye Ctr Dr. Dr said it happens often when people take antianxiety meds. There is a treatment they can do in the office but cost $1200 and insurance does not cover, so for now I do a warm compress treatment every night and massaging the oil ducts, then apply a gel I found on Amazon that contains Vit A which is healing, then I feel my way to bed, also I did found some drops that contain Glycerin which temporarily can be helpful, all the dry eye drops do not help because we have a mix of oils and moisture on our corneas.

hi , Thankyou for your feedback , that’s interesting to know about the anxiety meds , I take them when I need them , I was thinking of getting some eye drops , I will look for the glycerin , and the warm compress sounds a good , I will give that a go , I have heard that vit D is good for eyes

that happened to hubby; we went to TX State Optical and they said it was the gel breaking loose like you said, and it had a name, relatively harmless and doc said it would resolve itself. I forget the exact name of the condition, but hubby was seeing "floaters", probably the same as your squiggles. and it took months but they eventually went away for the most part. he didn't want to drive because he was afraid he would think one of the floaters was a dog running out in the road or something and swerve, now they are all but gone! yes, getting old AND being treated for cancer has lots of confusing medical issues related to the two. I think most of mine is old age quite frankly and I feel better on ibrance than I did off of it. God bless you and heal us all in Jesus name, amen!

Thank you so much for the info Liessie! I too have been having problems with watery eyes and black squiggles and dots. My eye doctor said it was nothing to worry about, but given the state of my health, I do tend to worry about everything:-) This is the first time I have been brave enough to write but I do follow your conversations. It is comforting to know you are all out there.

Thank you for your post! I have the same problem, which seemed to just show up all of a sudden. I have to get used to it, and sometimes it gets annoying. I try to ignore it but when I am tired it seems to bother me the most. Glad to know it is nothing to worry about. I looked it up online and found the same result as you did with your dr.

For your watery eyes, they say it's dry eye. Sounds crazy but they have eye drops you can ask your doc for.
