Mom has a breast cancer metastatic (bone and stomach) atypic case. We were doing blood transfusion from April till June and then everything went well, due to Hemax injection. Now Her onco informed me that she needs one unit of blood. Does it happen to anyone of u? she is on Ibrance since May. I am bit worried. Thank you
hi. how does the oncologist explain it? what does he think the cause is? if it is the ibrance...perhaps she can't tolerate it? I personally am not on ibrance so I am not the best person to answer. hopefully others here on ibrance know more? but I am curious what her onc has to say. she is your mom.....of course you are worried.

the cancer has affected her bones so the nbr of red cell is low
I too have extensive cancer mets to my bones. but my red blood cell count is fine.
I believe it's the iBrance effecting her red blood counts. Or did she have this problem before she started the iBrance? Was that her first cancer drug?
she had it before Ibrance.
I had my lobular go to my stomach and was losing blood through my digestive system without knowing it. My numbers were very low and I needed two blood transfusions. I currently take Ibrance and it has kept my stomach lobular at bay for 18 months so far. Hoping for many more! I hope they find out why she needs another transfusion. Get a second opinion if you don’t like the first!
hi Nocillo- I have lobular and doing pretty well on verzenio. My tummy feels uncomfortable mostly at night. Thr elastic around my middle of my undies is a problem. I really thought the scan I just had would turn up problems but MO just emailed to say all looks fine. I feel like they just can’t see it. I’m just starting to fill up early on meals. How was the stomach cancer found for you?
Endoscopy is the only way to see inside the stomach. Nothing else will do. Good luck!
Nocilla and Bettybucks - Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with lobular. I read a study published in March 2022 through MD Anderson's site that stated ILC tends to spread to the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts far more often than IDC. If fact 93% of those with ILC showed the cancer was present in their peritoneum and retroperitoneum compared to 8% with IDC on autopsies. As we know ILC is a different beast and lacking research/trials as most treatments are based off IDC studies. Perhaps you should request an endoscopy if you are getting some newer symptoms not explained by anything else?
her bones not producing red cells
Hi Ramona and all. I needed a transfusion when I started Ibrance (afer 2 monthts). My onc tild me that it is one of the side effects of Ibrance. Now it's ok.
Have you considered getting a second opinion if you don't feel secure with her current doctor? Or perhaps ask them for clearer explanations as to why she would still be needing transfusions at this point.
