Sneeze a lot taking Ibrance?

Actually just on a little of 3 weeks now and see a little blood too in my nose but not a bloody type of nose so don't know!!

I'm on ibrance and letrazole and have noticed that my nose runs all the time and there is usually a trace of blood when I blow it. I take an anti-histamine every day so I know it is not due to an allergy. I assumed it was to do with the drugs. I'm seeing my oncologist on Monday so I will try and remember to ask him.

Like you, my breast cancer came back after 10 years and the shock is like a punch in the stomach that winds you for weeks. Even after 6 months, I'm still finding myself thinking, "How did this happen?"

My way of dealing with it right now is looking into the 'Starving cancer' protocol by Jane McLelland and the possibility of Joining the Care Oncology Programme.

I'm also putting together my own diet, exercise and supplements regime after doing a bit of research on the internet and listening to some of the advice on here. I feel that trying to do something proactive makes me feel more positive.

That sounds good to me. I could do with some advice on the supplements. My oncologist was less than impressed when I mentioned it to him, but as I pointed out, he's not offering me a great deal so of course I am going to be looking to hedging my bets!

I'm waiting to get my bloods and CT scan results on Monday then COC here I come!

Thanx it is scary as just started my first cycle 3 weeks on now 1 week off. Still have problems accepting what has happened as I was a 9 year survivor and just like that it can back. We are all shocked by it. How does one accept this again after going through so much to get rid of it!!

Hi Thriver,There are many contributors to this site who had more than a decade free of cancer before they were diagnosed with MBC. The reality is that over 30% of the 13% of American women who experience early BC eventually develop MBC. It doesn't seem to matter much what treatment is pursued.

I refused mastectomy and chemotherapy back in 2006 as there was no good research evidence that it would do any good for someone postmenopausal. Instead, I did the bare minimum (lumpectomy X3 & radiation). It took 13 years before I was diagnosed with MBC in 2019. I now think it was inevitable in my case given that I had 4 of 9 lymph nodes affected at the time. Nevertheless, I forgot about breast cancer until I had to think about it again. It did not return in either breast, but it was everywhere else.

We accept our diagnoses because we have no other choice. We are simply pleased that we have each other on this site because we know what each of us may be going through as we face our mortality, and struggle to figure out our best treatment strategy. It is indeed a scary business, but you will likely do best if you assume that you will have many years ahead of you, and look after your health in general (exercise, proper nutrition, lots of water).

Hi Thriver,My dr calls my treatment “well-managed cancer.” I realized that I have ither health issues that are well-managed like allergies (I have experienced anaphalaxis a few times) and asthma. There was a possibility that I might have been allergi to the COVID vaccines, but with my drs, we had a pretreatment plan, so again it was “well-managed”. When you’re in the thick of things, yes, it is a bit scary. But we learn how to manage and as your name says, THRIVE.

Look for anything that gives you joy every day, even if it’s just a moment.

Hi Merma, I love the fact that you Dr calls it “well managed cancer” rather than a chronic illness. Somehow it seems less scary. I am on my 12th Ibrance Letrazole treatment cycle, but still learning how to be in the moment and looking for joy every day. Best wishes

Hi Thriver- I have been on Ibrance and Fulvestrant for 13 months now and sneeze everyday. Do you have a lot of sinus drainage? I feel like I’m choking sometimes. Have to clear my throat constantly and go through Kleenex like there’s no tomorrow! It is frustrating. I never had this issue before this med regimen so I’ve assumed it is the meds. I am asymptomatic otherwise so I feel like I can’t complain. It was 8 years after being considered “cancer free” that I was diagnosed. I handle it pretty well but once in a while those thoughts come in your head…roll with it. We are blessed that there are so many therapies available and more in the pipeline. Stay strong! Lin

Hi there! I've been on Ibrance and Faslodex for about a year now. My nasal passages have been one of my worst side effects. I went to an ENT and dryness is causing irritation and sometimes infection. He recommended using a neti pot/saline sinus rinse daily, which helped a lot, however, I just found my perfect solution! It is NeilMed Naso Gel (sodium hyaluronate and aloe vera). You can get it at the drug store or on Amazon. It has completely relieved me of my dry, cracked, irritated sinuses. I know I sound like a commercial, but I'm truly not! I'm just really happy to have found something that worked! Best of luck to you!

Thanks for that info. The back of my nose and throat are so dry despite my nose running all the time! it is especially problematic after I've been asleep.

I'm going to have a look for that on Amazon right now.

this body has been receiving treatment: Ibrance, Anastrozole, and Zoladex, since Aug 2015; it has been stable/NEAD beginning March 2016. i learned that i am in the small percentage of persons on Ibrance who fall in to the 'sinusitis side effect.' as soon as the body receives Ibrance, it immediately reacts as if it has a cold and (exacerbated) allergies. the sinusitis has been better over the past two years due to an internal nasal procedure. the coughing, sneezing, and post nasal drip can be annoying, and they are manageable.

Interesting I have the same “nose issue” , and sneezing I never associated it with my Ibrance.

This very interesting I was a mess of allergy type symptoms when I was on Ibrance I coughed constantly and embarrassing . My nose ran and fragrances made me almost nauseous. The post nasal drip would gag me . My oncologist never mentioned that it could be caused by the Ibrance and prescribe an allergy pill and a medication for acid reflux . I went off Ibrance last fall 2020 as it wasn’t working anymore , the allergy symptom have improved by 80%.

I learn so much from this group thriver49 don’t let it go on too long talk to your oncologist team, there is no use suffering if something can be done .

I have been on faslodex and Ibrance since 2016. I constantly have watery eyes and runny nose. I never attributed it to the medication but reading these comments enlightened me! I use a nasal spray at times and it helps a little.

I am new to this group and your comments have really helped me alot. I just ordered from Amazon a gel nose drop that someone recommended and hope it works. Has aloe vera in it which is soothing. I will try anything that I think that will help at this point. I just finished my 1st cycle on Ibrance but am a fighter to get through this too but do I have my moments of "gloom" and pop back but got back and forth is this normal!!

Have attributed sneezing to dry cold weather. Perhaps it is Ibrance/letrozole combo which I have been on 5 weeks consistently (except the 1 weeks off). Also wondered is anyone else has noticed bumps on scalp?

I have bumps on the scalp which I assume are bone mets. My first total body scan indicated that my entire skeleton, including my scalp, was sclerotic. I don't worry about them as I'm happy they are on the outside of my head, not the inside.

P.S. I'm on ribociclib (Kisqali) not palbociclib (Ibrance) but I too have the drippy nose syndrome.

Hey, Thriver-I’ve been on Ibrance and anastrazole for three and a half years now. Sneezing is not a symptom that I have had, but my oncologist keeps reminding me every metastatic patient is different.

It’s all scary; I am terrified before every set of scans but I know that I will get through things. Find your people, your faith life, and some things to keep you busy and entertained. You can do this.

I was recommended to take a Claritin when I take Ibrance . Works like a charm !!!

I take that as it is supposed to help with bone pain. It's not cleared the runny nose though unfortunately!
