Anyone have swelling with osteoporosis (bone cancer) after rods and screws?

HISTORY (Story below): I had broke my arm and cracked my femur trying to "get out" of the jetted bathtub last October. My arm felt funny and I decided to wash my hair before going to the doctor to get x-rayed. Dumb decision. If you feel funny with bone cancer don't stop, go straight to your oncologist! If there's any good from it, I was in my nightgown and surrounded by 5 aid car tecks. They said, "How do we get her out?" I said, "If two of you would get out of my tub, I'll stand up." One man lifted me from behind. I'm single so it was a cute story to tell my girlfriends. Then one of the techs kept giving me morphine and stayed with me until I had a bed at the hospital. This was in the middle of the pandemic so beds were at a premium. My nurse, a male, said he wanted me to stay as he was tired of watching after big hairy men. He said I wasn't hard on the eyes. Made my spirit happy....only I wanted out of the hospital due to COVID-19. I did have the BEST surgeon ever. She put a rod and screws put in my arm and leg. I'd rather have them then a cast. I was up and walking and using my arm in 5 months. But I worked at it as I was transferred to a rehab but it was more like a convalescent home.

PRESENTLY: My leg started swelling. I had forgotten that my surgeon had said if there are any changes to contact her immediately. Instead, I contacted my oncologist and she had me take some tests to see if I had any aneurysms. I had a trip all planned to go to New Jersey to visit family. No aneurysms so I went on my trip, only if I promised to keep my leg up and cold pack on it. Fat chance, my brother who drove rented RV would ask me to get things in the back of the RV while he was driving. I was like a bouncing ball. I thought it would do more damage than good. But, the swelling went down and I'm almost back to normal walking. Just a little hard getting out of bucket seats. Even so, I'm going to see my surgeon when I get back to Arizona. There could be damage to the screws and rods in my bones. Just don't do as I did, family or not.

Goldenhair, (be happy, mine is white now!😂) June 2018 left femur cracked by tumor. Rod placed, rehab, blah, blah. My foot still swells quite often. Pet scans & CAT scans often. Nothing wrong. Tumor not growing. My surgeon told me back when rod was placed that I would have swelling for couple of years. Well, it's longer, but I have so many other situations that swollen feet & leg is no biggie!😂😂😂 Take care of yourself & enjoy your vacation. 🙏♥️

I broke my femur last July and continue to have swelling feet! We have other things to think about! I am truly grateful that my cancer is presently stable and that’s all I can hope for! Overall, I feel fine and am enjoying my life the best I can! Keeping active, with a positive attitude is the answer! Rest when you need it, put your lipstick on and go to dinner! God bless! Kathy

Kathy, see you still have another year + for swollen feet/leg! I can't put lipstick on anymore because I never leave home without a mask!😂😂 Just another little bump in the road! 🤣😂 Marjorie

Hi Klamato, It's hard to walk and it feels like there may be a crack in the head of my femur. Going to the surgeon on the 11th. Hopefully the x-ray will show why my knee is swelling and why it's difficult to walk. My best to you! -GH
