Hi, my mom may be starting Ibrance soon and her oncologist is recommending she get the vaccine. We're a bit wary on them and I just wanted to get this community's thoughts on it.

Pfizer vaccine
I have received both shots of Pfizer— I had minimal side effects. Only had a sore arm and little body aches for one day. To me it is worth it And I’m excited about having immunity now!👍
I'm between vax shots, but have had minimal side effects. Soreness at the shot site, but only for a day, and only when I touched the site. Otherwise, really not bothersome at all. Such a relief really.
My mother, 80 last Wednesday!!, was reluctant to get it, but went today for jab No. 1. Couldn't be easier, and she's very relieved now...we all are!
I’ve had both shots of the Pfizer. Not many side effects so far for me. I sure will feel better having it than I did not having it. This is the one recommended by my oncologist, so I felt pretty good getting it.
Today I got my second Moderna. So far a little sore arm, but I'll see what tomorrow brings.I'm in a lung cancer group and a Xeloda group and a zoom breast cancer local support group, with a few thousand members total and we have discussed vaccines extensively. Some had more side effects than others, but those lasted a few days only. Nobody died and every oncologist had recommended the vaccine. I also get the flu shot every year.
I still am going to wear a mask and keep distance, but i do plan to finally, after a year of isolation, meet my friends and family with better peace of mind. My son (30 years old) got his first vaccine today
it's a personal choice and no judgement on those that don't want it. Sorry for the long comment.
thank you so much!! do you know if one is better than another for cancer patients? pfizer vs moderna?
I believe Pfizer and Moderna have about equal protection. The Johnson and Johnson, single shot has less protection.
Ok great and do you know if xgeva or fulvestrant injections can be done same week of vaccine?
I would definitely run that by your mom's oncologist. I'm sure your mom's lab results will be taken into account. I take Xeloda (Capecitabine) and my oncologist told me to go ahead with the second vaccine. My labs were ok and my liver enzymes (they were high last month) had come down.
I got my fulvestrant shot the day after my second Pfizer vaccine. Aside from a little extra fatigue, I felt fine. This was also during a time that my Ibrance had taken my neutrophils down to less than 1, and I still had no adverse issues with the vaccines. Glad that I got them 😀
My husband and I got the Pfizer shots on 1/24 and 2/14. Huge relief for us both! My arm was a little sore the day after the second shot but not enough to really bother me or keep me from doing things. My husband felt a bit fluish the day after the second shot and took a long nap, which he hardly ever does. We live in an area where the number of Covid infections has been surging and believe me, we feel so much safer for having had the shots! I'm old enough to remember the fears of polio when I was a kid, parents keeping their children inside, that kind of thing, and have known several people who had polio with various degrees of damage. My younger brother nearly died from measles. So I get vaccinated for everything I can.
I had the Pfizer vaccine same week as xgeva and faslodex injections. Only side effect was sore arm for a couple of days to go along with the sore bum😂Second dose tomorrow and monthly injections on Wednesday. Oncologist said better to have on week off xx
I’ve had the first shot of Moderna and other than an itchy arm I didn’t have any side effects. My husband whose platelets are low was advised to wait a bit. I believe some people have had serious problems with lowered platelets and the shot and If lowered platelets can happen with Ibrance then you can understand the Oncologist’s thinking. Good luck with whatever the choice!
I am in the U.K. where 95% of all over 60’s , and 50 % of all adults have so far had at least one dose of vaccine ( Pfizer or Astra Zeneca being offered so far here and Moderna approved and five others being assssed ). I had my second dose a week ago (Astra) and had no side effects at all after the second dose (apart from the injection site being sensitive to touch for a few days). I was a bit shivery the night of my first dose , but fine the next day . All my elderly relations , including over 90’s , have had both doses and are ok . So I would say get your mum vaccinated as soon as it is offered ! I had mine at the end of my week off Ibrance , but if your mum has not yet started on her Ibrance treatment, get it done now ! Take care ! x
I had the astro Zeneca on my week off. Ibrance and the next is due at the end of April. I felt poorly for 24 hours. I'd take anything that might help protect me and keep me well ! Although I realise I might get less protection than a ' normal' person!
I have had both shots of pfizer vaccine and had no side effects at all. I have grade 3 breast cancer. I hope that helps to make your up your mind as to what to do. Love to your Mom.
I am on Ibrance four years now and had my second shot on Monday. No side effects. I had covid in January, was not bad, but was lucky. My mets were in my plural cavity and was pretty scared that the virus would get in my lungs. I do not want to feel like that again.
I am 66 years old with MBC to 2 spots on my spine. I'm taking Ibrance, and get injections of Faslodex once a month and Xgeva every three months. My oncologist said yes, I can get the vaccine, but to schedule it for days 22 -28 when I'm not taking the Ibrance. Hope this helps.
Definitely get the vaccine. I have been on Ibrance for nearly two years and every medical person I have talked to said I need it more than someone whoIs completely healthy. I had my second shot two weeks ago and am fine. I did have about 6 hours of chills and aches after the second shot but it went away quickly. Science supports us getting the vaccine.
I've appreciated reading all of these comments. I'm in Canada and scheduled for Tuesday. These responses have helped to put my mind at ease. Thanks!
My oncologist advised me to RUN, not WALK, to which ever vaccine I could get FIRST!
My onc told me to make sure I get the vaccine!
