Has anyone had this happen?

I am on Ibrance -stage 4 met to bone. I had a boil develop on the breast which the medical dr saw and ordered a bilateral mammogram and ultrasound. Well the mammogram didn’t show much at all the boil and that the lymph node is swollen -ok it’s an infection there. The left breast showed a new mass with ultrasound only and a shrunken lymph node there. I just had a pet scan done oct 15 and it was ok and didn’t show any spreading except left distal femur that was present but now lightening up again. Some light activity at left breast. The onc has not called me about these other test results yet. I went for lab yesterday so tumor markers are pending. I’m not really worried too much but isn’t the best way to detect cancer a pet scan? If masses are missed then an ultrasound seems a better tool. It’s confusing. I hope all will be ok but at least I know the boil is a boil and will heal. I am diabetic and prone to boils last one 2009. My a I c is controlled but now this. I feel I can’t trust theses exams because something always pops up then disappears.

I’m sorry to hear about the new developments. Just wanted to share that my initial (and subsequent) PET scans didn’t show the 0.7 cm tumor in the breast. It was only identified via mammogram and ultrasound.

Wishing you all the best!

I've been dealing with this MBC for almost 17 years and several times have had radiologists identify things on various scans that my onc later realized were not what the radiologist suggested. My thinking about that is that some radiologists worry so much about missing something that they over interpret some of the time. I don't remember how many wild goose chases we've been on, but I've learned to not get too worried about what radiologists report finding. Plus we have not rushed to change meds and I seem to have very lazy non aggressive cancer cells so taking our time has worked well for me. That wouldn't be true for everybody. I hope you and your onc will come up with a plan that will work well for you and give you peace about your treatment.
