Overactive bladder?

Has anyone ever experienced an overactive bladder? My mom started having issues where she's getting up at least 10 times a night to pee. I'm not sure if its aging or side effect of her letrozole but I wanted to ask what you guys did to help it (if anyone experienced similar problems).

Thanks!

Jacqueline

Hi Jacquline!

I’m 51 years old and never used to get up to pee during the night. Now, since I started taking Ibrance with Letrozole, I get up at least once during the night but often I can go up to 3-4 times during the night. I asked my oncologist and there’s really nothing to do he says. Good luck to your mom!

Hi Jacquline,

Hyperparathyroidism?

Before my diagnosis I used to get up frequently to pee in the night and thought it was an age thing even though I was 53 at the time. I had also put on a lot of weight and could not shift it. I was always thirsty and drinking lots of water. But I put that down to living in the Middle East at the time.

On my return to the UK I was diagnosed with stage 4 de novo BC in November 2018. While investigating what was wrong (my back had fractured) I was also diagnosed with Thyroid cancer and hyperparathyroidism. (I’m greedy!) The following March I had a total thyroidectomy and at the same time my faulty parathyroid was removed (we have 4 near our thyroid gland). I no longer needed to pee all the time and the weight just disappeared. I felt better, if that’s possible to say when taking Ibrance etc.

There is a simple blood test that can test for hyperparathyroidism and so many women have it without realising. It may be worth mentioning this to your mothers doctors. I had never heard of it before but in retrospect it all made sense. I had all the symptoms, except depression.

Another explanation could be hypoglycaemia (yep, I had that too).

Of course it might well be a side effect of the BC drugs but thought it was worth sharing my experience.

With going 10 times a night, I would definitely have a urinalysis done. It's possible your Mum has a kidney or bladder infection. Does she have any discomfort when she pees or does so get up to pee because it is hurting? Get her urine checked.

No urinary infection or no pain. She just has to empty her bladder, it's so strange

Ok. Good. Still might be helpful to check her urine. How's her blood sugar?

Blood sugar is fine! And urine came back fine too- so strange
