Who has had diarrhea from dairy products? I was so happy that could make Noodle Pudding with low-lactose products, but had so much diarrhea that I realized it could be "too much of a good thing." Since I gave up the noodle pudding have have lactose-free milk, I've been diarrhea free!

Hi,

It sounds like you may be lactose intolerant. I would mention this to your oncologist if you feel it may be related to your treatment. But it sounds like this reaction may be from the dairy.

Apparently, low-lactose products like Greek Yogurt and Cottage cheese are not enough. I need for it to be lactose-free!

Yes, if you are lactose intolerant even a small amount would cause you problems. I would take a look in your supermarket for products that are lactose free. There are so many products now on the market that cater to people who are intolerant to lactose, gluten, wheat, soya, nuts and other products. They often cost more, but it is worth it if it means it will improve your health and enjoyment of food. I would also look into making lactose free alternatives, so that you do not feel that you are missing out on the foods you like.

Omg!!! I am so glad you posted this!! I have been having a terrible time for past 3 weeks!! If I have dairy within an hour I am in the bathroom and I have never in my life had an issue before. I stopped dairy and my symptoms immediately resolved. I told my oncologist and he seemed skeptical that I was suddenly lactose intolerant. He was not overly concerned and just said to stay away from dairy if that is helping. I thought well maybe it was a fluke or I had a bug so I tried a glass of milk on Friday....nope.... was running to bathroom. Maybe the Ibrance has altered my body chemistry after nearly 20 months on it? Very weird and disappointing to say the least since I love dairy. I have found that Fairlife is a great lactose free alternative . Tastes the same as regular milk and has a lot of calcium. Also Land o Lakes has a plant based butter that is delicious.

Hi Aimee,

That must be worrying for you to suddenly be lactose intolerant when you have been able to consume dairy products for most of your life. But at least you have been able to pinpoint the problem and eliminate it.

That's an interesting thought about the Ibrance. My wife has just started her fifth cycle of Ibrance. She has always been milk intolerant to a degree (a drop is okay in hot tea) but has recently got worse and can, for example, no longer tolerate creamed soups. In her case it leads to nausea and vomiting shortly afterwards.

This is interesting to hear about others. Recently I have been struggling with stomach issues after drinking milk. Before my dx I never had problems with dairy. I had switched to Almond milk after my dx thinking it might be healthier. Lately I haven't been able to find my favorite creamer and have been experimenting. I wonder if it is the Ibrance, Letrozole, or Xgeva that has caused the change? Or just getting older?

I am very fond of noodle pudding, and so is my husband. A casserole will last us several days. In fact, I think part of my problem was that I was eating so little each day, maybe it wasn't quite fresh by the time I finished it.

Just so you know, yesterday I discovered that the diarrhea problem hasn't completely gone away, but it is much improved since I've gone lactose-free. I am hoping that it is related to the Taxol, and will eventually resolve itself after my final treatment this week, but have to remember that my mother became lactose intolerant in her later years, and this might not go away.

Another name for it is is kugel - cooked egg noodles, cottage cheese, sour cream (or yogurt), eggs, milk, and sugar. I add diced apples (or applesauce) and raisins. Bake until congealed.

My children were both lactose intolerant. You may find that you feel particularly tired after the upset tummy.

Lactose intolerance isn’t always permanent, it can be caused by a bout of food poisoning. If you exclude all milk products for a little while you may find that by reintroducing them slowly you can tolerate them again.

Yep me too. Im not too bad and can eat cottage cheese and greek yogurt but if I eat anything creamy, milky or too much cheese etc, it plays havoc with my stomach. Never used to have that reaction pre-meds.

I’m lactose intolerant. There are great lactose free products - milk, chocolate milk, ice cream, cheese, sour cream.

Hello! I don't eat dairy (vegan...groan, I know!) but I can tell you that there are great dairy work-arounds for everything. I eat delicious "ice cream" every night (lots of options) and just today made a tasty mushroom gravy using coconut milk/oat milk instead of cow's milk. I'm confident that you can modify even your noodle pudding recipe (sounds delicious!) without compromising at all! p.s. Oatmilk is my favorite...pleasant taste, just shy of neutral, e.g. great on on cereal or in chocolate milk (yum!) with some high quality chocolate syrup.

if you're taking Ibrance, the capsules have (a small amount of) lactose in them. i do not ingest dairy, and the body reacts reacts to Ibrance with an upset stomach, particularly at the onset of a cycle. the new Ibrance tablets do not have lactose. i have the new tablets and have yet to take them, as i have some capsules left.
