Holy Basil Tea

Did I dream it or have I seen a few of our members mention drinking this tea? If so, did you like the taste (if not how did you doctor it to drink it )? Was there any potential drug interactions? Thanks.

Your not dreaming! It has been discussed on this site. I have not taken it so I cant share the experience, but wanted you to know you are not dreaming! Faith

Lol. Thanks. My mind is mush lately so it’s good to know I didn’t dream it. 😜

I'm not familiar with that (I'm glad that Faith responded!) but when I read the headline, I immediately thought that "Holy Basil Tea" was one of the "curse words" in The Good Place TV show!! :)

😂. That is quite possible. Thanks for the laugh, I needed that. Lol

You are never annoying Sandra. I always respect and appreciate your information and advice. When I saw it mentioned by a locals organic tea company I was sure I had heard of it before but couldn’t remember if it was good or bad advice lol. She is great and always says to check for drug interaction. I’ve been exhausted and hoping for some magic cure for that because sleep definitely isn’t helping. It’s only Day 8 since chemo so it may take me a bit to bounce back especially as I had Zometa also which makes me feel like I have the flu.

Never shy away from saying what you feel ❤️

Do you mean getting a juice machine and making your own juice with various green veggies or fruits? Or do you buy the ones I see at the grocery store? Is there such a thing as recipes? My sister has a machine that she used for a month and then out away. Maybe I could borrow hers.

Awesome. Thank you. It’s my sister’s juicer but she never uses it. Now she just has to fin it.

I have had alot of success checking out herbs, supplements on Sloan Kettering website. Well meaning friends recommend many things and yes,low and behold, some don't interact wll with certain treatments. And some can raise estrogen levels etc. I very much believe in supplements etc,you never know what might help, but with caution

Good news soon

Thank you.

Hi Sarah,

I’ve heard of holy basil, but don’t know whether it’s safe to take or not. When I have had a question about a new supplement I have either asked my integrative doctor for advice or one of my local pharmacists. Can you speak with your local pharmacist? I find them really helpful in looking into any potential interactions with my conventional treatment. The last thing you want is to take something which may adversely interfere with your treatment.

Take care,

Sophie ❣

I might be able to call and speak with him. Off to the ER as I’ve had diarrhea for a few days and feeling dehydrated. Hate to go if it’s nothing but don’t want to get sick.

in reply to

I am so sorry to hear you are not feeling well, Sarah. Hopefully you will soon be feeling better.

Take care,

Sophie

An IV for fluids and one for the gastrointestinal mess. They did a urine sample and I had the beginnings of a kidney infection so it was good I went in. I’m antibiotics for that.

That's a relief to know what the problem is and that it is being treated quickly. I hope you will soon start to feel better.

Hi,

I have started drinking Tulsi Tea (Holy Basil) this week. One cup per night. Tulsi Tea contains Ursolic Acid and along with Curcumin it's supposedly a good way to block the Glutamine pathway.

However, it's been said that curcumin could interact with Ibrance so need to be careful.

Tulsi Tea and many other vitamins and compounds have been discussed in the

'Healing cancer study group' in Facebook. It is very useful.

All the best,

Evaxx

Just had a reply from my herbalist saying Tulsi Tea is a wonderful remedy and fine to take alongside Letrozole xx

I want to remind everyone to run all herbals through a licensed pharmacist (I asked the one who is a cancer/chemo specialist at my hospital). Chem throws everything in the body off balance, and what is safe for normal health can aggravate or cause problems for a person under chemotherapy!

in reply to urthmothr

I’m not going to use it until I speak with my pharmacist. He should know what is safe. I will ask my chemo nurse next treatment also.

Hi Sandra,

I have a NInja type food blender and I make my smoothies in it. Is that what you mean by juicing? Of do you mean you use a proper juicer. I also have a juicer but it is a big procedure to make juice so I just stick to making smoothies. I also feel that my juicer would remove a lot of the pulp and I would lose fiber. Sounds like you get energy from your juices so I think I should give it a try. I rarely make a green juice but have started eating my dandelion greens that grow on our property and my garden kale leaves. Just wash them, roll them up and chomp away on them. I also recently heard that purple potatoes are a super food. I have never heard of them so I am looking for them. I have recently planted some holy basil so I will be looking forward to knowing about them as a healing food. Take care, thank you and stay safe. Marlene

I love purple potatoes. They don’t taste any different but are prettier.

Hi Sarcie,

I have never heard of ingesting holy basil but there are You Tube videos on gardening with medicinal herbs. So I will try to find out if any of those herbs suggest using holy basil. I will let you know if I learn anything. I have a vague memory that one of the sites I watched recently did say something about it. So maybe it is a good medicine. But you should definitely find out from a health care professional. Maybe ask a herbalist or naturopathic doctor. They study nutrition. My Oncologist says "no" to everything. She didn't even want me taking vitamins so I think I would not get good advice from her or from the other two Oncs I see off and on every month. One of them is very negative. I am currently reading a good book by Dr. William L. called EAT TO BEAT DISEASE and he provides interesting evidence that some foods really do have healing medicinal properties. He explains in very readable detail how they work. I haven't finished reading it but I am so encouraged by his advice. Although some of these things we all already know, like green and black tea, red wine, coffee, cheese, sauerkrauts, kimchi etc. Stay safe and thank you for bringing this question to us. We all benefit from sharing these things. Hugs Marlene

Thanks Marlene. My oncologist is like yours. He said no to Cordyceps, chaga and reishi (?) mushrooms. He said they are hard on your liver yet a naturopath swore by them. Sometimes I don’t know who to listen too. My pharmacist is good for interactions.

You make juice and add this to it or do you add this to water? Could I add it to a smoothie? I don’t like the green smoothie mixes as they are always so gritty. I’m lactose intolerant so can’t have regular protein powder.

Thank you. I’m going to buy some.

Thank you Sandra. I fortunately have lots of big leaf dandelionswhichare surprisingly not really all that bitter. So I don't mind eating them raw. But I might eat more of them if I add them to a green juice. But I also will now add them to my green drinks. Thank you for sharing your information. Hugs Marlene
