I agree with Sandra. I fell twice before an MRI revealed I had MBC in my left acetabular pelvic bone. My philosophy is question everything. I hope it’s all okay for you! ❤️🙏❤️

I fell last summer as I dismounted my bike. I landed heavily on my hip. I was very worried but I was fine. Hope you rebound easily too

I am totally fine this morning, and pain only lasted for a few minutes then went on exercise bike. I felt it before when I was holding bus handrail and driver stopped quickly so although I have bone mets think I will be fine. I do have bone mets as well as chest, but actually chest feels better on right side doesnt hurt as much as it used too, but that maybe because I want it to be better see what scan shows next month. Will ring onc today about arm

Hope u feel better! I know we worry with our condition that every thing can be cancer related. But sometimes a fall is just fall...my tumor marker went from 35 to 49 in February but 15-3 stayed normal...the next week I had bad headaches ocular migraine type and chest pain. Of course I was thinking tumors 😱. But then a coworker got the Covid. 😱So see it wasn’t cancer it was probably Covid! 😂🤣😂 (Note this was in February. But based on symptoms. We’ve all diagnosed her with it.) Symptoms lasted about a week but all good now...😀

Glad you are ok now x

Hi Tracey,

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you are feeling better today. I agree with the other ladies. If you have bone metastases then I would definitely mention what has happened to your oncology nurses or oncologist. There may be nothing wrong, but you don't want to have any possible bone fractures go undetected.

Not long after I started treatment in 2018 I tripped and stubbed my toe (trust me to trip over my own feet as I was walking along!) My husband didn't think it was anything to worry about, but I heard a crack and it felt like my toe was broken. I should have gone to the doctor's and mentioned it to my oncology team, but I didn't. It took quite a while for my toe to heal, and I still don't know to this day if it was broken or not. But it was very painful. So I would suggest you get yourself checked over just to be on the safe side. I make sure I get every little thing looked at now.

Hello Kiera49.

I agree with the other ladies that you should mention your fall to your Oncologist. I am glad that you feel okay but you would probably want to know why you fell. It sounds to me like it was an unexpected fall. Perhaps your balance is off. I don't know if balance is affected by the drugs but I feel less stable since taking Ibrance and Letrozole. Sometimes I feel like I am going to fall.

My Oncologist wanted to put me on drugs to strengthen my bones because I have osteoporosis as well as stage 4 mbc. I refused the drug because she told me that the drug can cause necrosis of the jaw and so I could end up with a rotting jaw. There is a one in one hundred chance of getting that nasty side effect. I just got so scared I refused the drug. But I do feel a loss of balance - it is subtle but it is worrisome and I do think if I fall I will likely break something. I am drinking bone broth every morning with turmeric and dried garlic but wonder if it is enough to strengthen my bones. My leg bones sometimes feel achy.

I am happy that you feel okay. You might not have a broken bone or a fracture but you should check it out. If you take a bone strengthener could you give me the name of it and I will ask my Oncologist about it. I just don't want to take the drug that can cause jaw problems. But there must be others that don't have that side effect.

Happy belated mother's day. Hugs Marlene

Hi Marlene, I have had Necrosis. It isn’t nice but I had been having Denosumab jabs when I had a tooth extraction and that’s what caused it. I think you will find it causes Necrosis when you have dental work. I missed my Denosumab jabs for 7 months because of it. I had three fractured ribs prior to diagnosis. It was the Cancer that caused the fractures. To be honest I would much rather have the jabs than not. Our bones will sufferer Osteoporosis in time and the jabs help to prevent this. I also take D3+ Calcium to strengthen the bones and the Denosumab helps the calcium adhere to the bones. Hope this has helped in some way. We have to have a full dental check before going on the treatment. I was just unlucky that I had an abscess form after my 3rd jab. I then had the tooth extracted and one week after a silly junior nurse gave me a Denosumab jab that caused the Necrosis. Over that all now. Positive vibes coming your way.

Best wishes

Thank you Flowerfairies2 for responding to my concerns.

You have provided much appreciated and very interesting information. However, I still don't quite know what you mean by jabs. Do you mean injections? My doctor wanted to me to have 2 intravenous treatments - both within a one year time frame - with a drug that sometimes causes necrosis. Actually it occurs in one out one hundred case. I have forgotten the name of the drug.

I just couldn't face having necrosis of the jaw on top of the cancer and osteoporosis so I refused the treatment. My Oncologist was quite mad at me. She told me to talk to my dentist so during my last cleaning I asked my dentist about it and he said don't do it. He said that he has seen some cases in patients with late stage cancer go "sideways". I took that to mean that the results were quite bad. But from what you are saying I think you have been healed from the necrosis. Is that what you are saying? If so necrosis isn't all that scary. Is that the case that you can heal? I was told that the necrosis is not reversible - that it is a permanent condition.

I went on line recently to do some research and discovered an osteoporosis specialist, a doctor Dr. Darren Schmidt, who was against those types of drugs. He said they make the bone denser but they also make the bones even more prone to fractures. He recommended drinking bone broth daily. You can make your own but I bought bone broth at Costco and it is actually quite tasty and I drink a cup of it every day. I also add turmeric to it and organic dried unpasteurized garlic so it is a bit like having a cup of soup. So now I will wait and see how I manage. I do have quite good dental health so far so not too worried. However, I am a very worried about fractures so I am very watchful about where I am walking so I don't fall. Thank you again for telling me what is happening in your case and I would love to know if your necrosis went away.

Stay safe and happy, Marlene

hope the arm is healed. have balance challenges, from meds(?), especially when waking in the middle of the night or the morning. in early Apr, fell upon waking in the middle of the night. home alone. knew it was "bad;" laid in bed until Urgent Care opened, and called my brother. sent to an orthopedic...displaced distal radius fracture (wrist). refused surgery b/c believed in the body's ability to heal. bones put in place, in orthopedic's office, full arm cast for 5 weeks, and short cast put on the other day. the wrist is healing and the bones are aligned! though mets dx to the right pleura, called the onc, from the orthopedic office, to keep her informed; Ibrance stopped to facilitate healing.

prior to this injury, in mid Jan knocked the middle toe on the corner of the couch. let it heal on it's own. one area did not look right. went to an orthopedic in mid Feb...it was broken and not healing. it was then splinted twice and wore a boot for a few weeks. still wonder if it is completely healed?

this body is quick to bruise and swells more easily with "injury," since the mets dx and treatment plan. noticed healing has been a slower process, and treatment exacerbates the slower healing. like to keep the onc informed of injuries, in order to allow the body to heal without challenges of treatment, when possible.
