Tofu and soya milk

Hi ladies

I seem to be always on here!

My hubby who is a vegetarian was looking for foods rich in iron to boost my low haemaglobin that aren’t meat based

Apparently tofu is a good source of iron but I was always under the impression that it mimics oestrogen and should be avoided if you’re oestrogen positive which I am

Had a google about this and there are conflicting studies..one says to avoid others say it doesn’t matter. I’ll ask my oncologist when I see her but just wondered if any of you ladies have been told to avoid soya and tofu products..obviously I don’t want to eat anything that would trigger oestrogen receptors

I asked my onc about this during my last visit. I love tofu. She asked how often I eat it. I said about once a week. She didn’t see a problem. I could probably eat it every day but will stick with once a week.

Hi

It’s interesting that she asked how often you ate it as it must have some effect

Japanese women eat tofu all the time and they never have menopause symptoms..in fact there’s no word for menopause in their language so their oestrogen levels must stay higher?. Makes you think

The older I get and especially since being diagnosed, I have begun to question everything from our general cultural practices in this modern “first world” country of ours, to the far reaching influences and greed of corporations, especially insurance and pharmaceuticals, since they affect me so directly. There is a documentary several years old about how a farmer in Canada was threatened and terrorized by Monsanto because he refused to buy and grow their GMO corn. It almost broke him. I know I am way off the topic of tofu here, but can you imagine a world where people (including corporations and politicians ) just did the right thing? I think being socially responsible would still allow for profit and a healthy economy. I am not quite sure how I got from tofu to ethics😐. Certainly the average American diet, what is allowed to pass for food and misleading advertising take a toll on our health. So important to try to stay aware and informed. Tofu once a week it is.

Sister/Warrior: If you'v read my previous post', you will know that I agree with you, but, for now the pharmaceutical companies have medications that are stopping cancer growth, or are slowing the rate of cancer growth. But I do believe there are solutions from God's green earth, and environmental solutions to decrease cancer risks. Online research shows holistic clinics/small hospitals that have great NED results, are being closed, and many holistic Dr.s are turning up missing. Kevin Trudeau was jailed for giving out information on why cancer is so prevalent in our lives. People have done horrible things for the love of money. There are billions of dollars at stake. I pray God will show us a green earth cure. Amen

I was told to avoid soy products in large amounts or daily use but occasional was ok.

Hi Barb,

Both my oncologists and naturopath told me that having tofu or soy milk 3 times a week is fine, just make sure they are organic and GMO.

Studies are based on taking soy supplements which are not good.

I agree, so much confusion regarding what we can't eat or take.

Hope this helps....

Blessings

I'm not a big tofu fan either but it's probably because I don't know how to cook it properly. 😉I have used it to make icing and it's delicious.

Iron is in lots of different green vegetables. I eat lots of salads with greens (broccoli) and some beans also have iron. I do eat meet (steak or roast beef) at least once a month and that seems to increase my iron levels. I am anemic but cannot take iron pills as I am allergic but you may need to supplement your diet with iron pills if your iron is extremely low. Good luck!
