Reducing Gabapentin

I will be seeing my neurologist out of Vanderbilt in a week or so. I have mistakenly missed my 7pm (300mg) pill of gagapentin but took 600mg at bedtime with no ill effects. As some may remember, my RLS is completely under control with only a twinge once in a while. Over the last month, I have taken only 600 mg at night several times but slept fine. I will mention this to my neurologist next week. Just wonder what your thoughts are on the reduction permanently, don't want to create a problem where none exists. Thanks for listening

If it works, why not.

If a lower dose of gabapentin works then I would absolutely reduce and hopefully feel fewer side effects. I would hold off reducing the prescription for a while to see if it stays like this as RLS isn’t always predictable and sometime there is resistance or delay to putting dosages up. One of the good things about pregabalin and gabapentin is being able to vary the dose to suit the symptoms as long as you stay within the max dosage and also take into account the problems with gabapentin absorption over 600mg at a time.

The general rule is, the less medication one takes, the better.

I have never taken more than 300mg. I was received 900mg (300mg 3 x a day) about 6-8 weeks ago but never increased my dose as I’m sleeping well and, like you, only get the odd twinge once in a while. I spoke to my Dr last week and said this and she said if it’s working then stick with it 👍🏻🙌🏻

I don't rate Gaba much and am sure I could do without it as I am on Opiods now.
