morphine alternative- any thoughts?

had a review with my GP and mentioned that I am still waking up around 2am with RLS, albeit more manageable than before. She gave me prescription for 'MORPHINE 5MG MODIFIED-RELEASE TABLETS' and said to give this a try to get me through the night. Anybody tried these and are they going to cause me issues of addiction at this level? Took me ages to get of Prami soo don't want to get stuck in another withdrawal program. Appreciate any feedback or comments.

No - that's actually a very low dose plus using a low dose opioid does not get people with RLS addicted.

Opioids are very helpful for refractory RLS, especially after augmentation and damage caused by Pramipexole. The Massachussetts Opioid Study is showing that RLS patients are not addicted to their opioid meds and are not developing tolerance ( the need to increase the dose to maintain the effect).

I was terrified at the thought of taking tramadol and Oxycontin for my RLS because I too thought that it would lead to addiction. It didn't. I don't chase the next 'hit' or buy extra on the black market. I don't experience any 'high'. I've never exceeded the prescribed dose.

In your case, 5mg is a very low dose. Hopefully it will stop the RLS, but if not, see the Mayo Algorithm and RLS UK treatment page to see the average daily dose of Oramorph for RLS. It's 30-40mg.

I take morphine. I have tried the tablets but prefer the liquid form . 5mg is an extremely low dose and without danger of addiction in my experience. I have been taking it about 3 years and have no addiction issues.
