The other side of surgery and covid!

hi. Had a mastectomy 2 weeks ago today and tested positive for Covid 12 days ago! Covid tests negative but symptoms persist!

Surgery went ok - fatigue the key issue. Time should sort that out 🤞

Restless legs mostly ok - taking half a Pramipexole tablet each day! I got half way through weaning myself off them prior to surgery. I will get back to it when I feel strong enough. Take codeine at bedtime. Have the odd episode but can cope with that.

I have contacted Professor Walker, but still waiting to hear back. His secretary is chasing him. I am due to have repeat blood test done by my GP as soon as I am well enough. I am taking gentle iron tablets every other day. It’ll be interesting to see whether there’s been any improvement in my iron levels, but I’m not expecting miracles.

So that’s where I am so far. I plan to join in with the restless leg society AGM this weekend.

I'm so sorry to hear that you caught Covid after your operation and hope you are recovering from both. Take your time. Regain your strength before you continue reducing Pramipexole.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yes that makes perfect sense. I don’t think I’ve got the energy to rush anything at the moment! 🤦‍♀️ Tiredness is overwhelming but it will get better x

I had breast surgery last year ,I empathise. Hang on in there you will get back to normal energy levels. Go gently and listen to your body. X

About 45 years ago I had a virus and it was followed by what was then called "post viral syndrome" The symptoms match what is now called "long covid"

After about 12 months of being too tired to live and unable to work (and of course several doctors accusing me of malingering) I decided that I had to act so I started jogging and eating large doses of multi vitamins. Some thing worked. The first time I went jogging I covered about 50 metres before I had to almost crawl home. Every night I extended my distance by at least 10 metres and a bit more until I was jogging for 3 kilometres and then jogging home. It made an incredible difference and the "brain fog" went away. Then I decided to backpack around Europe for three months and finally made it back to the workforce. I changed some long term plans but it made the rest of my life worthwhile.

It might not work for most people but if you don't seem to be improving with long covid and the doctors have run out of helpful ideas then it might be worthwhile trying to push your body to just beyond the limit. Nothing to lose.
