Will a serotonin-1F agonist affect RLS?

I have recently been prescribed Reyvow for migraines. It is a serotonin 1-F receptor agonist. Will this affect my RLS?

My first thought is to say yes - from what I can read the drug increases serotonin to target pain, SSRI antidepressants do the same and they have been known to exacerbate RLS.

My second thought is that there is some lack of knowledge in how it works and it specifically targets 5-HT1F which may not be the issue with SSRI's as they seem to target the 5-HT1A receptors.

Sorry but it looks like a case of try and see, so common an approach in medicine.

I'd be interested in hearing how you get on.

As raffs says, this is an unknown.

As Reyvow is a receptor agonist it works by stimulating serotonin receptor sites, the 1F receptors are found in particular parts of the brain.

SSRI antidpressants act differently by preventing the reuptake (re-absorption) of serotonin from the synapse. They also act on different receptors and presumably therefore in different parts of the brain.

Hence as 1F agonists act differently and apparently, in different areas of the brain they may not have the same effect on RLS.

Please let us know what happens.

I appreciate the input from you and Raffs... I decide to decline this medicine. Ended up seeing a neurologist who diagnosed me with occipital neuralgia instead of migraines ... hence why all the other migraine meds wouldn’t touch this pain and pressure. He is also in the same department as Dr. Arthur Walter’s so I’m in good hands as far as the RLS is concerned. 🙌🏻Now on to getting relief!

I'm glad the misdiagnosis has been rectified!
