It is so hard watching someone you love deteriorating. It is natural to try and do all we can to make things better but unfortunately there are some things we can't make better. When my husband was first diagnosed I tried things that I thought would help but have now resigned myself to the fact that things will progress downwards and there is nothing Ii can do about it, other than pray for a miracle, which I do. Now I try and make every day special as if it will be our last. There is still the routine, grotty stuff to get through but I try to find something to laugh about every day. My husband laughs a lot when things go wrong, which they often do, like when I tried to lift him on his hoist the other day and became very cross when he didn't rise until I realised I had put the strap around the commode as well so was lifting that as well as my husband. I know we are losing the PSP battle but we are still making good memories to look back on in the future

Very best wishes and a great big virtual hug.

I think you need a crash helmet, knee and shoulder pads Jill. Or one of those padded sumo wrestler suits so when you fall down, you bounce back up. Take care today. I hope you have a fall free Sunday.

Hello. Hmsol4src

What NannaB posted is, unfortunately, the reality we all face, or in my case faced, every day. Make your mother feel loved and wanted every day. Take her out and let her see more than the inside of her home. It's not always easy.

Take care. Maddy

No you haven't lost the battle. You are still standing by your mother's side. You are there, alive, feeling, caring, powerless to cure her, but no one can do that yet..but not powerless to care, to comfort, to fight for the best care, and to love. And that is the battle..to keep loving no matter what..and to tolerate the intense emotions and to watch and to grieve without turning away or numbing out...The battle is not with death the battle is inside of us, to stay present in spite of the terrible pain and loss and tolerate the reality of the situation as bravely as we can. You have my love. I know the feeling,

Wow Jill, that is some very meaningful thoughts to read on Monday morning. (I realise it was late on Sunday when wrote!) but you are right. In one way we have already lost the battle with PSP, our battle is to now stay focused on what we can do, that's love and care for our loved ones. Thank you for that thought. It has set me up nicely, for what is not going to be a pleasant morning. Got a formal meeting with my Mothers social worker, her partner is demanding they stop her care package. (It's interferring with his drinking!!!). Don't know what to do. she has Alzheimer's and doesn't know what is going on. That's on top of spending the night with a high temperature and getting up to S half the night. Thankfully, feel better now!

Lots of love
