Is anyone familiar with Dr. Dorff at City of Hope in LA, California?? If so, what are your thoughts? It appears she has great knowledge with Immunotherapies. Thank you for any info you might share!

I've met her, and I adore her. Incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, and caring. Among the best MOs in LA (along with Edwin Posadas at Cedars-Sinai) and the lead investigator of several new immunotherapy trials.

I’ve seen her twice for second opinion appointments. Great doctor, very knowledgeable, stellar reputation.

Darryl - thanks for re-posting that interview. If the time comes for me, this helps a lot in understanding the role of a MO. Hope I would be able to find someone with her approach in the Atlanta area.

I see her every 3 months. Very good, very knowledgable. Always replies to my email questions same day. Heavy patient load, very busy, be sure you are proactive each visit to highlight what needs to be discussed and what treatments you're currently doing. I've also had multiple visits with Mark Scholz for comparison. My opinion, Dorff is a better choice and she has the facilities of the City of Hope comprehensive cancer Center for treatment and testing in house.

Jolley I was just gonna say I have my first appointment with her on 9/26 and could give you my thoughts after , but it seems like others here think very highly of her and I’m glad to see that.

Jolly,

I just had my appt with Dr. Dorff on 9/26 to get her opinion on what path might be best for my situation. I had already met with 2 surgeons and Dr Kishan at UCLA , probably should have started with her first. She was very pleasant and answered all of my questions. She recommended surgery for me, and she did say she was very biased to surgery vs Radiation. Her reasoning is that she has seen men develop rectal cancer after having radiation. She just felt that its a risk she wouldn't take.

She stated that my age and the surgeon I would use, Dr. Lau from City of Hope, would give me the best long term outcome. So now the deciding game for me. I think its really a crap shoot between surgery and radiation. They both have pros and cons. I'd say find the best people you can to consult with and make your best decision. Hope this helped a little.

Just FYI…Dr Lau did my surgery. Excellent surgeon. I do have 50% ED (and getting better) but NO incontinence. I knew I was in good hands when my uro (not affiliated with COH) told me if he had to have his prostate removed he would choose Dr Lau.

I know this is an older thread, but I have been Dorff's patient since the end of December 2022.

She is amazing!

Very knowledgeable, very respectful to me as a patient (and as a partner in my care), very compassionate. Her whole staff is great too.

Tough to get an initial appointment with her unless you've got urgent needs or an interesting case I'm afraid, she's in very high demand. I was initially told something like 9 weeks to see her, but after I sent in my case file, they called back and said she'd see me in three weeks, right after Christmas weekend. When I thanked her for seeing me so quickly she said "compassionate care with urgency" is our motto.

She's worth the wait even if you can't get a bump in the schedule date.

I see in many of her notes that's she reviewed my case/history for this or that potential trail and her reason for not suggesting it to me.
