Question about starting Abiraterone

I am going to be adding Abiraterone to my Lupron next week. MO says 4 - 30 mg pills. Should I start with all 4 a day or start with 1 then 2 etc. so my body gets use to it? Anybody tried this approach????

Thanks as always to all of you.

No. It's 4 - 250 mg pills without food. you also need 5 mg prednisone/day as a replacement dose. Take the full dose - that's what the clinical trial data is based on.

Thanks ta. The mo said to take 10 mg of prednisone a day that sounds like a lot will it hurt me if I only take five

That's the dose if you are mCRPC - 5 mg for mHSPC. Take the dose appropriate to your situation. It replaces what abiraterone takes away.

Sorry to be so ignorant but what is the difference between the two situations you describe above? You are always so helpful ta

Thank you.

Should I expect a significant change in my side effects over and above what I already have from lupine now that I'm going to begin Abiratone

No- it's usually more of the same. Tables 1 - 4 show the most common ones for men in your situation. They aren't much different from placebo for men already taking Lupron. They will check liver enzymes. The only other major things you have to watch out for are high BP, low potassium and edema, which are signs that you are not taking enough prednisone. But that is more a problem for men only taking 5 mg/day.

I do mine with 1000 mg, each tablet is 250 mg. I have to take 4 tablets/capsules.

I take mine between 6-6.30 am every morning with plain water, since 3 June 2020. Followed by Prednisolone 5 mg at 10 am n at 4 pm

So far my PSA has not decrease as I hope it should. My PSA was at 28.5 before I started Zytiga and after 4 mths it’s at 27.5 🥴

Thanks so much for your reply.

Are you also on lupron? Has taking prednisone so late in the day affect your sleep?

Yes, they call it Lucrin here in Singapore

Been on it before my Docetaxel Chemo which started on Jan 4 2018. Was diagnosed on 9 October 2017and been on it since, every 3 mths interval.

Well, can’t really say if taking prednisone so late affected my sleep, cause to be honest there are days I sleep like a log and there are days when I hardly get any good sound sleep. Especially when fear of my mortality haunts me, sleep just leaves me however when my grandchildren come to visit and I spend the whole day playing and chasing after them round the house, at night I am out the moment I hit the pillow...hahaha.

I try my best to stay the course as I am not ready to throw in the towel, somehow after diagnosis, I am beginning to appreciate my life so much more and according to my wonderful wife, have become a much calmer and peaceful person.

My best to you ❤️

Same to you Haniff. Lot's of exercise, even though you are fatigued helps a lot. I have been fighting this beast for 18 years. I was supposed to die 12 years ago according to my Doctors. I refuse to die!!!!

BTW - I love Singapore. I built the original movie in Bugis Junction. Love your country....

Keep fighting

My husband took four 250 mg pills/day in the morning on an empty stomach. He also took two 5 mg prednisone - 1 mid-morning with food and the other around 4 pm. The instructions were very specific from our oncologist, and both the nurse and the pharmacist went over the details with us. My understanding was that if side effects were bad they could reduce the dose, but I believe most men start at the full dose.
