I see studies that are successful in mice but fail in men. But the dose rates in mg per kg are much lower in men, depending on a strange relationship based on surface area. Is this one reason the treatments do not transfer? Maybe we just do not take enough? Anyone understand the basis of this?

Mice aren't human - the whole body chemistry is different. Mouse studies are just a screener for clinical trials - not meant to be taken seriously by patients.
