Diet and exercise reduces mortality

ctarleton posted a link to a YouTube video of a presentation by an expert on diet and exercise for prostate cancer patients at the University of California. See: uctv.tv/shows/Diet-and-Exer...

It turns out, according to her studies, that men diagnosed with prostate cancer (non-metastatic I think, but don't recall for sure) who get the best diet and exercise have a 68% reduced risk of progressing to lethal prostate cancer as compared to men who eat a poor diet and don't exercise.

If she's right, that's a tremendous benefit. Ir reduces all cause mortality as well as prostate cancer specific mortality - and the side effects of increased energy, greater strength, reduced body fat, etc., sure are a lot better than the side effects from androgen deprivation, chemotherapy, etc.

So, go for it! Eat healthy. Work out. It's worth it.

Thanks for posting! The only thing I'm perplexed about is high calcium diets being in the risk factor column. My urologist recommended a calcium supplement, is he trying to kill me? :-)

Yes, well, I know one of the ancillary benefits of my prostate cancer (if you can call it that), is that I have lost 32 lbs, my blood sugar has fallen 25 points, my blood pressure has fallen 20/10 and my cholesterol is down 40 points. My diet is much better and I exercise more. I might die from prostate cancer, but my risk of heart attack, stroke and diabetes are way down. Haha
