Good Morning

I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and am looking at surgery. Does anyone have recommendations for a surgeon in the Tulsa, OK area? Experiences that would be willing to share about their surgery??

Thank you

Be sure to explore all your alternatives. Whatever your diagnosis, you have time.

What was your diagnosis/Gleason score, etc.? As tall Allen says you have time to check all options and there may be no need for surgery. As far as a robotic surgeon in Tulsa a friend was recently operated on by Dr. Mark Milsten.

Gleason is a 4/3. In the process of evaluating options now.

What was the opinion of Milsten?

Thanks!

My friend was 74 years old with, I believe, a 4 + 4. Due to many reasons he chose the surgery. He indicated Saturday that he was very pleased with the doctor and that he had performed 2000 surgeries which I know is a very important criteria. His surgery was very recent, early March so no medium or long term issues available yet.

Personally I chose to avoid prostate surgery however that was just me and my own comfort level. I did have to have a TURP procedure to resolve urinary issues prior to my 28 sessions of proton beam treatment in San Diego. I finished January 11. My Gleason was lower, 3 + 4. I also did not take any ADT though opinion on this was split between urologist and radiation oncologist. I was 65 at time of diagnosis.

Good luck with your research. Talk to as many men as you can about their experiences. Most treatments will take care of the cancer so understanding post treatment effects is critical.

Thank you for the quick response; it is very helpful. There are definitely a myriad of options.

One last question, was your friend’s surgery traditional or robotic?

Thanks again for the info!

No problem. Sometimes these forums are the best place for info from folks who who gone thru this and aren’t selling anything. Cancer patients/survivors are great at paying it forward. I’ve been lucky to have excellent support thru 2 cancers in past 5 years.

My husband sees a doctor at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida (no diagnosis, just strong family history and observation). I know all of their surgeons are pretty highly rated (in Minnesota , Arizona, and Florida). If you can travel to a surgeon that does several of these surgeries a week, I would consider it. His brother had surgery at mayo and has had good results.
