9 weeks pregnant

Hey everyone,

I’m 9 weeks pregnant and I can only eat fruits. My food aversion is really bad. I don’t even feel hungry. 😞

ask your gp or midwife about complan drinks or similar and pregnancy vitamins. As long as you are getting the nutrients that you need via this it’s better than nothing until your appetite comes back? Could possibly get on prescription?

I wouldn't worry too much. I was hardly able to eat a thing my first pregnancy early on as I felt so sick and everything bar very small bits of dry beige food was off limits for months. I lost weight and had ketones in my urine and was being advised to eat Mars bars just for the sugar and calories, which I couldn't manage...It gradually improved but not really until the third trimester. But I had a really big baby despite that. The amount of nutrition your baby needs at this stage is miniscule and they'll get it from even very tiny amounts of food and drink, and from your body. If you can take your pregnancy multivits and keep them down that's likely enough for the baby, but for you it's probably worth checking with your GP (and midwife when you get assigned one) to see if there's anything they can help with or suggest.

I survived on ice lollies for about 4-5 weeks so fruit seems a lot better than that! You are at the peak of the worst part right no hopefully it will get better ina couple of weeks and you can introduce things like plain toast or pasta. Just make sure you are taking all the right vitimins at a time of the day you can most likely keep them down 🤗 also speak to your midwife about the anti nausea tablets they aren’t just for if you are being sick they can also help with that ‘travel sickness’ feeling if that’s an issue contributing to your food aversion at all. Try not to worry it’s really common xx

i didn't have an appetite for weeks, and felt really bloated/ uncomfortable when i did eat. I tried lots of different foods/ snacks, raisins, avocados, nuts, dry mangoes, etc etc . Helped to set alarms and have small meals. I think my appetite is coming back now at week 13

Thank you for the reassurance. That’s good to know. I’m happy your appetite is coming back. Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy.

I could hardly eat in Tri 1 and my midwife told me not to stress about it and that the baby is getting what it needs regardless, it’s Tri 2 where you are encouraged to step it up. Fruit isn’t a bad thing to be eating I was surviving on plain jacket potato, cheese, sweets and ice lollies for quite a few weeks, very small amounts of food, and baby is growing nicely, now nearly 25 weeks. If you are really worried speak to your GP or midwife for reassurance and advice. Congratulations on your pregnancy xx
