severe morning sickness

hello all,

10 weeks and have been suffering with morning sickness since week 6. I lost about 5kg in the first 2 weeks and was being sick multiple times a day, with a few off days. Phoned the doctor and was prescribed a tablet, was told to contact if no improvement. I had 1 good week, now I am back to being sick and not holding most things down, I have now lost 7kg. I will probably ring the doctors again but just wondering what they are going to be able to do?

My life is miserable at the moment, everyday is like Groundhog Day. I haven’t been to work for a couple of weeks, I went one day and nearly passed out so was sent home. I do a manual job and I feel like I am getting weaker and can’t bear to face it at the minute.

I have tried all the tips for morning sickness including meditation. Nothing seems to help.

Just looking for some words of comfort really and maybe some amazing advice that I haven’t heard yet🫠

There are several different medications doctors can try to help MS so definitely speak to your GP ASAP. They probably gave you cyclizine, which works in many but not all cases. MS is a wretched thing and it’s so important you get the right support if this is hyperemesis gravidarum (and even if it isn’t). Hope you find something that works xx

Hi Comet9175!

Get back in contact with your GP, they’ll prescribe you a different tablet. They prescribed me avomine after at first prescribing me cyclizine. It worked wonders!

Don’t suffer in silence. Xx

Hi. I know its been many years ago but arrowroot biscuits always worked for me. Just eat them dry out the packet when you feel sick. Most supermarkets sell them. Worth a try....

So sorry to hear how poorly you are. It sounds potentially like you may have HG. I would contact the doctor again and hopefully they will prescribe you something better.

I had HG from 6weeks and it was severe until around 24 weeks but then it was more managageable for the rest of the pregnancy. As in able to eat properly and only sick occasionally but felt sick all the time.

I found that eating very very slowly helped keep things down and that not eating after 5pm otherwise I would definitely be very sick. I also found the only slight relief to be from sitting under the shower.

It is very miserable and very difficult, you just have to take every moment as it comes and try and find strategies that work for you.

I also have a manual job so was off most of my pregnancy however sickness absence due to pregnancy doesn’t count towards normal sickness.

My lo is nearly 10 months now and absolutely fine. I hope you start to improve soon. X

Thank you very much. that’s so strange, I’ve spent hours sitting in the shower! Luckily the sickness doesn’t stop me from sleeping but the trouble with that is that I just want to sleep all the time!

Wow I really hope mine doesn’t last that long.

I’ve had this with my first who is now 3 and I’m currently 4 months pregnant with my second and it seems to be worse this time round. It’s been so sever, can’t eat hardly anything due to food aversions and when I can eat or drink it was coming straight back up. Treatment for HG I’ve been admitted into hospital 3 times within the first 12 weeks of this pregnancy and treated with fluids each time aswell as anti sickness medication it does make you feel better but a few day would pass and I’d be the same again. It has eased off a little but I am still sick and still unable to eat very much I have now found that coke-cola helps settle the sickness and eating something dry like toast or buiscuits first thing in the morning helps. It’s very miserable and taking over life atm but trying my best to get through each day

I am so sorry, this sounds horrid. I had it similar, but not as bad as you I don't think. I also lost weight and it terrified me, but don't worry - the baby will take what it needs and be fine! (It's us that suffer!) Definitely go back to your GP and ask for other meds - there are lots of options! I found that mint tea, slowly sipping coconut water and eating dry crackers helped me. Also trying to get out of the house if you're able to go for a tiny walk. And try and get hold of some of those anti sickness/nausea sea bands. Good luck, it will pass and remember that you're not in this alone xx
