Just back from my 32 weeks scan and all looks fine, except baby’s abdominal circumference (AC) is really large, over the 95th percentile. Head and femur are in the 70s and 80s and overall weight at about 90th percentile.
I am quite concerned what this means for the baby’s growth and health, and also worried that I might end up with birth complications. My gestational diabetes test recently was completely fine so that doesn’t seem to be a possible cause. My first baby was more in the 50th - 70th percentile so it was never a worry before.
Anyone with experience or knowledge on babies with very large AC? Google is not reassuring!!!!
Thank you ☺️

I had exactly the same with my baby (born 2 weeks ago). His abdominal circumference was right at the top of the scale both at 28 and 35wk growth scans. Also no gestational diabetes. At 35 weeks he was estimated to weigh 7lb 13!
We were about to go for a 37 week growth scan and potentially get going on an early sweep/induction when my waters broke naturally….
Required forceps and a small snip to get him out (8lb 13). Turns out he’s just a big cuddly baby, rather than having size related complications.
However, use of forceps, and the bruising it caused him, contributed to his jaundice and having to stay in hospital for a week for blue-box therapy - could have done without that.
Thank you for sharing! Good to hear other experiences and congratulations on your newborn cuddly baby! ☺️ I hope you’re feeling well after the birth!
I am hoping for a home birth and all this is useful in making my birth plan decisions. Your experience sounds very ouch but great that you’re all well and did fine! Xx
