Hi Dogmad600, I know you've posted on this topic several times recently. What sort of support is it that you would find useful. Our opportunity to help is quite limited and just in the way of offering you a safe place in which to voice your needs, through posting.Lots of people here will be very happy to interact with you, but it would be easier for us if you could make your posts a little more explanatory, so please tell us some more about your needs, or even just post some pictures, or tell us about your hobbies and your daily life and then you'll get much more positive help! Take care and stay safe!

Hi, Dogmad600, I don't keep up with all posts or posters but do want to say that any who struggle with addiction problems of any kind deserve support and help. Good for you for having the courage to "name" your problems with alcohol.

That sounds like a great first step to me. While I am deeply grateful that I don't suffer with the alcohol temptation, I often find others with whatever their own personal addiction might be highly critical of someone else with a different one. So senseless in my view.

Just yesterday, a good friend was bemoaning the fact that a very close friend of hers who does have a serious alcohol problem but won't admit it was being very critical and judgmental of another in their friendship group who is addicted to nicotine. Her remark to my friend was: "Well what can you expect? This gal smokes like a fiend, complains about having to restrict activities because of added danger to exposure of Covid but won't stop smoking!"

It is so easy to see the mite in another's eye while failing to address or admit to our own, yes?

I, otoh, have a very large "sweet tooth" with the dental bills to prove it! I'd decided that a personal goal for 2021 would be to see if I could limit any added sugar for 2 days/week. Yesterday was my 1st day and I can only tell you if was much harder than I'd imagined!

Regardless of topic, I receive so much comfort and encouragement from just reading what other members in these great forums post and share.

Hope you will reach out to others for support and continue to post how things are going for you.

You have conquered the first step in identifying you need help .The carers may focus more on your sister but when they come maybe they have local contact numbers for specific help for you . Immediate guidance could be sought from 111 . It isn’t just a crisis number it is a helpline . I found them good as my sister has mental health issues and her 9/5 Mon to Friday helpline wasn’t sufficient. It would be good to have a phone call from GP too. Don’t depend on just one source . These people are employed to care for all aspects of health and you as a career need support . Not saying drink is that supportive but as the next of kin for my sister it is very understandable. Luckily she doesn’t live with me so I have the discipline of work to hide behind and fill empty time. I would phone mental health support as this covers so many areas. This and you will only get worse and why - when you are a great support and carer. Your sister will also benefit if you get help .
