Have you talked with the doctor about neuropathy? How many times a day do you take the medication for the nerve pain?

Thanks for reply . Yes we have discussed neuropathy . He contacted them twice but is if not weeks , months awaiting them to get back to him. He is really good and supportive having sent me for various tests . I take medication for nerve pain 2 x3 times a day = 6 . I sometimes take Tramadol when pain is extreme . Having had physio I get frustrated with do I do the exercises or not ? Use my initiative & refrain when discomfort yet can walk my dog which helps for exercise

What are the exercises you do (when not walking)?

Sliding leg out to side and back to supporting leg . Knee raises with stretch band , above knee stretch band side and forward stepping. Support Leg squats with one raised behind on chair or sofa. Stretched on floor Glut clenching. Pelvic stretch with feet parallel and bent . Again the same stretch with ball between knees and raising pelvis . Leg extend with stretch band on bent leg arms over head. Stretch band on ankle stretch inner thigh towards and away from straight resting leg. Reps of either 10 or 15

Hard to be exact with explaining . Don’t do these if pain uncomfortable or I feel I need to rest groin a few days . However I have been consistent to keep and or build strength . I have tried the plank a few times for core but not too often

How big is the Thera band that you use? I had one for exercises dealing with a rotator cuff issue for my right shoulder.

Can you do the exercises every other day?

That might be an idea . I will try that . After many tests my G.P thinks it nerve damage but had to have tests as I had a hip replacement on the same side . It has had a huge effect on life in general as I’m usually quite active

Please see how it goes with every other day and let us know if it helps.

When did you get the hip surgery?

Peterpan4u profile image
Peterpan4u in reply to Activity2004

Oh 5 1/2 years ago . Injury happened in April when lifting heavy object on said hip for support . All tests on that hip are perfect so doctor presumes it nerve damage

How did the nerve damage happen back then?

I will see how it goes thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. Much appreciated I’ll look in to this . I don’t use Tramadol unless really bad. I have instead used paracetamol when pain is moderate

Thanks for your comments. I find walking eases pain and can often walk for over an hour yet leaning on side of pain or sitting upright or squatting or kneeling in garden can cause real pain . Frustrating when I have quite a bit to do in the garden

I really hate taking meds but sadly it’s the only thing easing or keeping severe pain at bay .

Thanks for the advise . I have made note of pain management course. However my doctor has been trying to make contact with appropriate specialists . I will mention this . I’ll try anything at the moment .

Dear Peterpan4u,

I can only repeat, what I have Suggested To 'Others', which MIGHT be worth trying.

Firstly have you tried a TENS machine? Some people Swear BY them..... Other Swear AT them. The same is true for Hypnotherapy, various Massage/ Manipulation Techniques and Acupuncture. Not forgetting Reflexology, that I have had myself... My 'Verdict', Well Worth A Try.

Many HAVE found Relief, sometimes considerably so, by theses techniques. Unless there is a Medical Reason NOT to try, any/all of these, it is surely worth considering.

Apart from this.... Hot/ Cold Compresses/ Baths, of various types (Hot/ Cold, Fynnon or Epsom Salts) or 'Rubbing In' Ointments/ Emollients and so forth.... it is Difficult, for me, to advise you further Peter. I'm truly sorry, that I can't be more 'Help' my friend. Clearly my Prayers and, Very best wishes, are with you. I Pray that you have a

Happy New Year

Andrew yer a gem . Thanks for the ideas and support. I have tried cold and hot compression. Cold pack eases it . I am considering buying a tens machine maybe tomorrow as I have looked into this. I may consult a doctor before hand just to be sure. I’m hoping a corticosteroids injection may help or further investigation in to nerve damage from a specialist . Maybe Acupuncture which you also mentioned . Have a Happy and healthy much better New Year

Hi Peter.

I had pain in both knees for years

Due to arthritis, until a friend suggested I try....Masons Dog Oil..... you can buy it on eBay, costs about £4/£5 for 100gm pot... it actually comes in wax/vasaline form.

I rub it liberally into my knee joints, both sides of knees, and above and below, and rub it well in, I do this before going to bed, I read for awhile for it to take affect, and I usually sleep through the night, pain free!

If you look for it on ebay, it comes in a squat yellow pot with a black lid, dont buy the first one you find, look for other sellers, because prices vary..... I purchased a six pot pack(cheaper) after trying my first pot, I was very sceptical!

One pot usually lasts me about a month!

I am 77 years old, livng pain free nights in South East UK..... you can but try it.

Don(Veteran250) 🤨🙂

Thanks . However my pain is most likely from nerve damage as I’ve not had pain from hip . Thanks anyway

Thanks for the information . I have done short, long and total rest. As potential nerve damage being upright and walking a bit helps . I have stopped gardening for the meantime . I’m hoping some specialist in nerve damage can give me the once over . I’m willing to try anything as it changes quality of life when in pain as I’m sure so many know. I’ve just realised what a positive and supportive group this really is

Thanks . I may need to see my physio therapist again to work out new exercises and he may be able to refer Hydrotherapy. He and my g.p will advise I’m sure . Funnily enough I have a good wide range of movement on the joint just extreme unexplained pain . Thanks for the hints and advise

Thanks for that . I will look into it. However I cam predict it will be assess . I’m on employment support allowance but if means tested with partner it May just rule me out . I pay for practically everything . Meds, dentist, etc . I’ll check it out . Thanks as I wouldn’t have had a clue about that

Hi Peterpan4u, Sadly I can only offer some empathy to you. I know first hand how debilitating it is to to live with high pain levels and how quickly you can begin to feel that everything is hopeless.I'd just like to say that there is help out there, but for so many reasons it may not come quickly and that sometimes all we can do is to draw on our inner reserves with determination to get through until that help arrives.

Do persist in asking for help and reiterating that you are suffering in body and spirit. Try to remain as strong as you can and remind yourself often that eventually you will find something and/or somebody who will help to improve your situation.

Thanks so very much . Very wise words. It can sometimes get you down and depressed. I’ve not been the same since this. On top of everything else going on I’ll just have to persevere. Thankfully I have a really good and supportive G.P . Best wishes for a happy and healthier New Year 😉👍

Thanks your so kind informing me of this . I just worry that it would dig up a can of worms and I’d be the un lucky one to have it all stopped .
