Hi, Brig57, I'm not sure what you are referring to in your post but it brought a smile because for years I thought I was a "lady hercules" and could lift heavy objects and do hard physical work.

Now that I'm much older, I take more precautions with lifting and recognize that I no longer have the energy or "muscle" to do heavier work that once was taken for granted.

I believe most young people generally think they are pretty indestructible. Only as we mature do we begin to realize that taking fewer risks may be a wiser course.

I think it depends what people do . I totally respect my 55 year old friend who lost her husband then learnt to drive , got herself a full time job and picked herself up . Did no harm to others in fact she was that strong role model I needed . She did take risks. She stuck her neck out , had to juggle 2 credit cards to pay for driving lessons , sold loads of sentimental items to buy a car but my goodness she was strong . I am 60. I won't sit on a fence blaming others . I did but it got me nowhere. I am taking risks and if I fail - I tried . There isn't much help out there when you look round . The lifeline for my sister was a phone line open Monday to Friday 9-5pm ... any other time and I suppose she was meant to control her acute anxiety around these hours. Our answer = keep busy , keep occupied and keep pushing yourself a little more everyday.

I am trying to understand your cryptic linguistics. I am guessing that Rudy in urban slang is seen as the perfect gentleman. However if that’s the case you have my gender wrong . I make no apologies in my philosophy that life is what you make it . I no longer hide behind people in the broadest sense of the word . My weight loss is a lot to do with this as it is sad but true that we innately judge others on their appearance and the irony was that shedding 18kg changed my life .

Brig57, Rudy's story is a favorite and was made into an excellent, inspirational movie. It has a more personal meaning for me because my oldest grand son grew up wanting to play football at Notre Dame. We aren't Catholic but he'd watched their games on tv.

He was offered full football scholarships from several prestigious colleges including Stanford. Boarding the plane after turning down the recruitment visit for him and his parents, he received a phone call from Notre Dame offering him a scholarship.

After playing and graduating from N.D., he plays tight end for the NFL team, Miami Dolphins and is a family example that pursuing our dreams can sometimes come true.

foucused1, What a great and inspirational share!

Yours reminded me of a dear neighbor and wonderful stay-at-home mom of five. She had always wanted to be a nurse but married her first yr of college. When her youngest graduated high school and left for college, my neighbor entered college, became a registered nurse and eventually became an instructor of nursing students at the college.

We are never too old to learn and achieve new goals and if once we fail, we can always "try, try again".

I have so much admiration for people who work with horses. I have a mild fear of them maybe through ignorance . Aged 10 I endured half a day horse riding in the Welsh hills . My horse didn't understand my silly commands ,had me very near cliff edges with arms cut with barbed wire. My 2nd episode in my 20's was riding the biggest horse on planet earth who only understood Spanish . The men we went out with must have kept telling the horse to run .I thought I was truly in a cowboy film . The horse reared up in the farm courtyard and I was flung off. I laughed in severe pain as I was the only one not genuinely amused. I need lessons on a gentle horse with an instructor who is patient and knows my limitations .
