I get that 4woody and really believe in that saying. Being genuinely happy for others (whatever it is) can bring instant happiness to us too.

Liking somebody could be construed as "emotional abuse"... but being happy that they are happy would, I hope, be considered an innocent pleasure.

truly liking someone would be the opposite of abuse... using someone is abuse. This author seems to say that being happy FOR someone for any reason is joy.
