I've just done something I've been mulling over for a while, I've sponsored a donkey.

It upsets me so much but is it going to the donkey funds is my only concern, I have to turn them ads off as its so upsetting but I guess at least we be trying to help them

in reply to

It does me as well but no it wasn't an add, I went to the website to look for the sponsor link. We also sponsor a Guide Dog as well and I was reading the 'pupdate' as they call it today😊🐴

in reply to

I have donated in my will to the guide dogs for blind I love labradors and I would hate to be blind I think it's a good cause too ❤️💛

in reply to

That's a lovely gesture. It's an excellent cause and it was the right thing to do for us as we could never have guessed that a few years later we'd have a granddaughter that would be diagnosed with JIA with Uveitus (Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis) and the Uveitus affects the eyes and you can go blind. Our grandaughter is in medicated remission which is amazing.😊🌈

in reply to

Oh thank god I hope she is ok yes out if all the conditions to have I feel to be blind would be the worst as you know I get my happiness from seeing so many wonders that are there we take things for granted at least this virus is making people take a step back and realise what's important in life and that there's more than there usual things that can bring joy, oh I read about peanuts there bad for the gut wall , night night 🌈💛xx

in reply to

Totally agree that being blind would be awful, the joy we get seeing the autumnal colours, they are amazing. Our granddaughter is cute and feisty which is great.

I agree it is making people think a bit more.

Oh I didnt know that, I eat quite a few peanuts, particularly peanut butter.

Night night🌈😊👍

Horses are magnificent and so powerful. Donkeys have a lovely nature. Years ago, I bought one for a friend 😊

in reply to Narwhal10

They really are and donkeys do have a lovely nature. Oh what a lovely gesture to buy one for your friend, I'd love to own one as I think they are gorgeous🌈👍🐂

I was in East Africa and a colleague needed one as a mode of transport. 😊

in reply to Narwhal10

They are so good for that 🐴🌈

I'll look into it that last as I saw of that poor donkey struggling was unbearable to watch I feel like going out there and having a go at them cruel people that treat them like that life is so unfair and it's usually the innocent animals that suffer and pay the price for human greed and selfishness so good on you hope your post helps 💛💛

in reply to

Aw thank you 💜💜. The Sanctuary I've adopted it from isn't too far from me, that's how I knew where to go. How people can hurt animals I'll never know. 🐴🤗

My niece has become a fosterer for Spanish dogs brought over from a pound where there are 600 poor homeless doggies. She fosters one at a time while they are waiting to be adopted. A wonderful thing to do.

in reply to diana1998

How lovely of your niece to do that, saving those dogs lives is a fantastic thing to do. The cruelty in the world is awful and if we can do a little bit it soon adds up. Well done to your niece.

This is amazing Alicia, I must admit, when I see the Donkey adverts on TV, I cry, I can't bare to watch the suffering. It is very admirable what you have done. Well done. 👍👌😊

in reply to bobbybobb

Thank you Bobby. Now you know how much I love horses, it just had to be a horse or donkey. The Sanctuary is near to where I live. The donkeys near to where I was staying in Derbyshire on holiday were nuzzling me, gorgeous animals. 🐴🐴🌈😊🙏

Hi

What a lovely thing to do. Will you get photos of the donkey? Please show us when you receive some.

Great... I've adopted a sheep called Miss Molly locally so I can visit her anytime 🐏. She had 2 boys last year and this month she will go to the ram and hopefully have 2 more. She's one of 8 Wiltshire Longhorn. They live on a private wooded nature reserve, my friend is a voluntary shepherd and they lead a lovely life which is heart warming. Another friend has adopted donkeys for her grandchildren. A very worthwhile cause.

in reply to diana1998

Aw, that's so lovely and what a fabulous name Miss Molly, I love it. The Sanctuary isn't too far from me (unfortunately it's closed at present due to the pandemic) and I will visit when I can as I really want to see the one I've adopted. Living on a nature reserve, what a beautiful life and a voluntary shepherd, that's so lovely on our friend. I bet your other friend's grandchildren love being able to see their donkeys. 🐂🌈

Smiler53

That's a lovely thing to do, they do get a rough deal. We are supporters of 4 animal charities. I guess animals are a bit of a passion in our house.

Talking of donkeys, have you seen Gary the donkey from Canon Hall Farm (Friday on The Farm/Yorkshire Vet etc), I have never heard a donkey who is so vocal as him - love him to bits ?

in reply to Smiler53

Thank you and they do have it tough. Well done on the animal charities you support, we support nature and animals.

Oh yes, I have seen Gary the donkey from Canon Hall Farm, I love that programme and the brothers are so passionate and treat their animals so well, I also love the name John Bon Pony (I think that's what they call the pony). We are going to visit the farm when we go on holiday to Derbyshire next year as it's not that far away from where we stay.

Smiler53 profile image
Smiler53 in reply to

Haha yes, love the way they name their animals after rock stars. We are avid fans of Canon Hall Farm and love Rob and Dave. We tune into their Facebook broadcasts every Friday and Sunday at 7.30am - brilliant! Hopefully next year we can get up there to visit too. Love the way they are with the animals, especially Helen the alpaca 🦙- the way Rob (talks) squeaks to her A

in reply to Smiler53

We also love it as well and the brothers Rob and Dave are really lovely, so passionate about what they do.

Oh I didn't know they were on Facebook, I'll have a look at that.

They are really lovely with them and I've always loved Helen as a presenter.

I hope you get to see them.🌈🙏

Smiler53 profile image
Smiler53 in reply to

I think they named Helen the alpaca after Helen the presenter and Jules the baby donkey after Jules the other presenter. Definitely fingers crossed for next year 🙏

in reply to Smiler53

Ah yes, of course they did. Oh definitely everything crossed for next year. I really want to meet the brothers and all their animals.🐴🌈

Ah yes Dexter it is. How lovely you go there when you're on holiday and so lovely of you to also sponsor a donkey. They are beautiful creatures aren't they🐂🌈👍.

Oh congratulations Alicia. I'm delighted for you! It's something I've often thought of doing too, and it will be of such help to the organisation through whom you've sponsored. Keeping donkeys safe and well is a costly business! Enjoy being a foster mum!!

in reply to

Thank you Sue. Well you know how I love ponies and it was a toss up and of course I then thought of the Sanctuary as of course they are rescued from a horrible existence, that made my mind up. It really is costly and there are so many volunteers out there. I will thank you.🐂🌈😊

Brilliant, we have a Donkey Sanctuary where we live, it is an amazing place for the grandchildren to visit when they visit us. We are very privileged to have four grandchildren, two are adopted whose emotions tend to run high at times; being around the donkeys whom they can take for a walk with a handler and then groom them is amazing to watch. Pure contentment and pleasure on both sides.

Hubby and I visit often, one of our favourite places. Take Care.

in reply to Recorder500L

That's so lovely you are able to take your grandchildren there, children do love animals. Animals can help children so much when they have any problems.

Lovely you can visit often as well.

Stay safe and well.😊👍🐴🌈

What a lovely caring to do, we must all be animal softies I sponsor 2 animal charities too Dogs trust and Battersea dogs and cats home, I know they're probably among the most sponsored but the work they do is amazing, I love donkeys, when I was a kid there was one close to us in a farmers field, so friendly, but typically stubborn 😊xx

in reply to

Thank you and I think we are. Well done, they are very good charities and it doesn't matter if they are the most sponsored, it means that they are looked after and have homes. We sponsor Guide Dogs for the blind as it was a charity that my my lovey mum always supported when she was alive so I wanted to do the same. She also used to give to a charity 'Save the Horses Fund', that's what it was called years ago and I don't know if it even exists now.

Donkeys are very gentle creatures, I've always loved them but you are so right, they are stubborn but cute with it. :) xx

Yes, it is so lovely of you and everyone else. It's so sad that do many animals are badly treated, it breaks my heart. Have you seen NHS (or similar) for animals. On ITV on a Wednesday at half 7 I think. It's for people who love their pets but can't afford the vets bills.

Night night sweet dreams

All my love Lynne xxxx ❤️ 💜

in reply to

Thank you Lynne and I agree that it's very sad the way in which animals are badly treated, I honestly think people get away with far too much where animals are concerned. No I haven't seen the programme on TV, I'll have to have a look.

Take care

Hugs

Alicia xxxx 💜💜💜🌈

in reply to

Thank you

The programme is a bit if a tear jerker because a lot of these animals would have died if this service wasn't available for some people a pet is the only company they have which is heartbreaking.

I feel so fortunate to have all this love and support around me from friends, family and if course all my friends on here. You are all SIMPLY THE BEST!!!

Love and hugs to you all Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗💜🤗

in reply to

Programmes I find with either animals or little children are tear markers, they are innocent. I know some people are happy to just have an animal as company but others are also craving human company, it really is sad and I'm fortunate to have a loving husband with me and family not too far.

Bless you, thank you Lynne, this forum is a huge support.

Take care and hugs

I used to sponsor a donkey called Tapestry. I loved receiving updates about him. Sadly he passed away a few years ago. I now sponsor Hearing Dogs. My previous one,Libby, has passed all her training and now is a full hearing dog for a deaf person. My new dog, Luca, has just started training.

in reply to DaftCat

That must have been very sad, they are such beautiful creatures.

Well done on the sponsoring a hearing dog, isn't it great to get updates, I've recently received a 'pupdate' from the Guide Dogs for the Blind and Cookie is doing really well, there was a video with the update which was lovely.

Enjoy your updates.

Have a lovely day.

Donkeys are beautiful! Others here have mentioned the adverts. I get so angry. Why are such gentle creatures treated appallingly?

My friend is deaf which is why I sponsor hearing dogs. Her dog is such a character !

in reply to DaftCat

They really are, I also get angry and upset as they are such trusting creatures.

That's so lovely of you. I sponsor Guide dogs as my mum was an avid supporter when she was alive.😊🌈
