Algae Oil

Hi all

Hope you're all having a good day so far. I wanted to share something with you that I've read in my magazine this morning. I've read that Algae Oil is good for the mind and of course it's natural so if you do suffer with depression/low mood etc this is definitely worth a try for sure.

I've also found a link on the internet regarding the oil.

oilypedia.com/algae-oil-hea...

Take care and stay safe.

Will chevk it out later. Maybe others on the Fofum will have already tried it and post their experiences.

😁

Yes I think it would be useful if some have used it but it's natural so that's always good.

Alicia :)

I thought it was as well Jerry and I'm going to give it a go as you can get a Vegan version as well.

All good.

Alicia :)

Hi Alicia, Sounds an interesting alternative to fish oils for vegetarians and vegans. I've taken omega3 in the form of fish oil for years and I think any claim it has as an anti-depressant may be over-hyped, as St John's Wort is, but of course when you have a condition I think it's always worth giving safe and inexpensive dietary adjuncts a try, as they might help! And certainly science (or some of it anyway), tells us that omega3 is essential for heart health. 😊🙏

It really does Hidden , very interesting.

I used to take Omega 3 before I became a Vegan but stopped. Funnily enough I took St John's Wort many years ago and it was working brilliantly but I had to stop as I suffered from one of the very rare side effects and that was photo sensitivity.

It's worth trying anything that's natural.

Hope you've had a good day so far.

Hi Alicia, I agree, there's really not much to lose except the cost, so why not? Yes, doing great so far today and hope you are too! 👍🌈

Totally agree, I'll just buy one tub once I've researched it a bit more and see how it goes.

Glad your day's going well. My day's been fine thank you, no walking as foot is aching again, I've seen the doctor now so he's requested an x Ray. I've sorted out all the photos on my phone, about time as I had loads, updated my diet diary and been in the garden weeding. Think I'll be cooking tomorrow.

Have a good evening.

Hi ReadyFreddy

Thank you for your reply, I was going to look into it further tomorrow. I do think diet in general though, I'm not talking about any supplementation, has a lot to answer for in regards to mental health. I think natural alternatives are good to look at.

I take a capsule of this every day for the omega fats they contain. I started taking them because I didn't want to get the omega fats from fish due to concerns about pollution and concerns about exploiting fish. (I should explain I've spent some time exploring veganism and getting your omegas from algae rather than fish is obviously better from that point of view.)

Now I subscribe to the company I sourced them from and they send me a couple of boxes of capsules every 4 months, trouble free. The company I buy from is Testa Omega, who are based in the Netherlands. (I have had to contact their customer service agents, whose English is more than adequate, and they were prompt and pleasant to deal with.)

I pay £29.00 every 4 months, which is an acceptable price in my view. I know that not everyone would agree taking supplements is a good thing to do but I feel that they help me, and if that's all they give me (peace of mind), that's good enough for me. I hope that this anecdotal evidence/personal point of view is helpful. I should say the company I buy from doesn't pay me or give me any kind of incentive for mentioning them or their products. Just in case anyone was wondering. :-)

P.S. I should add that I can't claim they help my mental health, but I do believe supplementing with vitamin D has helped significantly to lift my mood - as has learning meditation. 2 years in, I feel that my moods are much more stable and my mental health during lockdown has actually improved because of the meditation and the practice of loving kindness and self-compassion.

I would recommend the free daily meditation sessions offered 4 times a day by the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion. People join these sessions from all over the world and in multiple time zones. It's an amazing feeling to be part of a community, much like being on these boards, where you feel you can belong. These free meditation sessions are now planned to continue indefinitely because they have been so hugely successful.

I can certainly understand why you started taking the capsules, makes a lot of sense and agree the pollution and exploiting fish is something that should be considered.

Thank you for saying what company you source the capsules from, that's really helpful as I then know that someone else has had good service as when you look on the internet it can be difficult to know if they are any good.

I think £29.00 every 4 months is very reasonable. I don't have a problem with supplementation at all as if we tried to get everything from our diet then we'd have to list down everything we need each day, like keeping a diet diary. I'm keeping a diet diary for IBS as I'm following the low fodmap diet and believe you me it's a tiresome task but for me it's worked wonders. Thank you and I didn't think for one minute you worked for the company, I share things on here that I've used and what companies I've bought them from as it's very useful.

Sounds like the combination of both the vitamin D and the Omega 3 has helped. I've heard that vitamin D is very good as we all know that a bit of sunshine lifts our mood. Meditation is very good and I go to yoga classes, this was before lockdown of course, and the woman that takes the class is really lovely and she always says 'be kind to yourself'.

Thank you for mentioning the mindfulness sessions, I am going to have a look at those.

Thank you once again, your reply has been so helpful and I wish you well and all the very best.

Thank you very much! We're all trying to live as well as we can, aren't we? So I figure if we share information we can work out what that is for each of us. :-)

Very well said and I totally agree.😊🌈🙏

Oh my goodness ReadyFreddy, I so feel for you as Fibromyalgia is an awful condition. Fortunately I haven't got it myself but it's like having IBS, which I have, people seem to think 'oh it's only ...', if you get what I mean. People do not realise how much these conditions affect your life.

I really do hope that there is something out there that someone is researching and it becomes available and will alleviate your symptoms.

Wishing you as well as you can be.

Alicia

You're welcome, look after yourself and hope there's someone in your life that understands.

😊🌈🕉🧘‍♀️

From what I've read so far online it is. I'm glad what your took worked well but what a horrible side effect, I've got IBS so know how that feels. Originally did pre low fodmap diet which is amazing, I feel so much better.

Hope you find something else that works without the awful side effects.
