Going out.........

Good morning, I have recently joined your group but I am fairly active in the HU AF forum.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts regarding the following. My wife and I are 73, both reasonable fit with no respiratory issues. I have lone Atrial Fibrillation which is controlled having had 2 ablations. Like most responsible people we are anxious not to do anything that will compromise our health, or the health of others. We have no immediate family therefore we need only come into contact with others when shopping and we try to keep our distance from other shelf raiders!

Yesterday, the medical spokeswoman alongside the PM said that children now out of school, should be encouraged to spend time outside supervised as long as they conformed to social distancing rules. I know dog owners are told much the same and I also know you are not medically trained but I would be interested to hear your thoughts about going out in semi-rural areas where you can be remote from other human beings......

Hi FlapJack,

A warm welcome to the forum. I know that the HU AF is also a lively and well frequented place to be, and I hope you'll find this forum to be of support to you too at this difficult time.

The good news is that, yes, you can go out for air and exercise. If you have a garden, that's one great place to be, even just for some deep breathing. I don't have a garden, so I have to physically go out. I'm 72 and have an undiagnosed heart arrhythmia but this has not been a barrier to enjoying some fresh air.

Wherever you choose to walk, the vital part is distance from other people. Avoid places where there are other people and if you come across them whilst out, move as far away from them as possible.

In addition please listen out for any further advice as these are strange times and advice can change at the drop of a hat, but please don't imprison yourself any more than you need to. Just be sensible and enjoy the fresh air whilst we are able to get it. This crisis may go on for some time, and we may, later, face further restrictions.

Very best wishes. I hope you enjoy this forum too and hope you stay safe and well.

Thank you Callendersgal, that was my understanding of the current position but as you say, things are changing on a daily basis. As you would expect, “our” forum is receiving a large number of Coronavirus questions and we are making them aware of your Community so expect an increase in activity!! Best wishes........

Hi FlapJack,

Yes, I think most forums are able to concentrate on very little else, but absolutely glad to have lots of recommendations, so recommend away! Thanks and take care.

Hi

Welcome to our wonderful forum. I have to self isolate as I have many underlying conditions. My son suggested we all went for a drive in the country or a walk along the local canal with a picnic. Stay safe. Lynne

Thank you Lynne, we have just arrived back from a Surrey beauty spot and it was heaving with people, no social distancing there so we bid a speedy retreat!

Stay well.....John
