I had covid two weeks ago. Thankyou by the way for those who answered my post when I didn’t realise I had covid, I had pains which I thought were the pmr returning.

I am recovering quite slowly, no longer feel rotten but very breathless ( I have asthma) and having pmr type pains. I don’t know what to do about steroids. I have got down to 1/2 mg but have not reduced further since becoming ill. Should I up the dose or hope that pains will subside as I continue to recover?

Also can I ask , do people find their sense of taste and smell come back in time?

The trouble with the "hanging on and see if they improve" stance is if they don't then you end up having to take more anyway. So best to approach as a flare - sort it out quickly - and then drop back down to just above current dose.

Usual advice here -

Can't help on smell or taste, but hope you soon feel better...

I can only speak for my own Covid experience. Yours might be totally different. I lost my sense of smell and taste completely for a few weeks. Then it came back but very slowly and intermittently. At first I'd suddenly smell something out the blue (strong flower scent or perfume etc) and then it would disappear again. Frustrating but at least I felt it wasn’t gone for good. Then I seemed to be able to smell and taste again and I thought it was all ok but actually I think the senses were still a bit impaired because after about 3 months I suddenly seemed to experience a very enhanced smell and taste experience. I suspect that this was just me getting back to normal again rather than actually being enhanced. But as I say everyone is different.

If you have asthma - speak to your GP about the pred, you probably need a decent dose.

If you challenge your sense of taste/smell (they are the same in fact) it is said to encourage their return.

I don’t feel that I need the big dose you take for asthma , not at the moment anyway, it’s just the pmr really. Interesting note about the sense of taste/ smell, thankyou
