Hospital and vertigo

I was admitted to hospital following a nasty bout of vertio in the early hours of Monday morning so I didn't take any medication that day at all including steroids. I am currently on 10mg per day. I was kept in overnight but as I had my medication with me I did take my daily dose on Tuesday morning after a small amount of breakfast - couldn't eat anymore! This morning I took my usual dose after breakfast. My question is should I have taken a higher dose? I feel very weak but that's only to be expected after not eating for 2 days apart from some toast and a few mouthfuls of breakfast yesterday morning. I am definitely not fit to do anything at all today so am just staying at home and mostly sitting down. Advice would be appreciated please.

That sounds like quite an ordeal. Presumably the doctors were aware that you were on steroids? I am surprised that they didn’t administer them or give you any advice. When I was in hospital for a camera endoscopy they took all my medication away and they gave it to me. The lack of Prednisalone may be contributing to your feelings of weakness but it would be best to talk to a doctor I think.

I hope you feel better soon.🌺

Thank you for your reply. The doctors should have known I was on steroids because I told the paramedics. I am feeliing a lot better now thank you. Still weak but my strength will come back gradually and I am eating and drinking normally again.

No, no real need to take extra now you have caught up but it really is a good idea to get a dosette box and put a day's worth of all your medications in it and keep it in your handbag, At least keep a box of pred in your bag and check it occasionally to be sure the use-by date is still OK. You never know when you might get stuck away from home.

on admission did they take and analyse a blood sample, it seems to be routine practise. Inflammation raised and knowing your Pred history they may have doubled your dose for 5 days. I was on 12.5 when hospitalised for extreme pain and inability to stand and was passing out. With 25mg I was back to normal the next day.
