I got down to 4mg before I had a flare. My dose was increased to 10mg for 8weeksand then was told to reduce to 9mg for 4 weeks. I’m almost there now and expect to be told to reduce by 1 mg for another 4 was. I feel much better now. Don’t try and reduce the dose too quickly Always go by your doctors advice. Messing around with your dosage without following doctors Instructions can be dangerous. Hope this helps.

reducing dose prednisolone for PMR
Did you mean this to be a reply to an existing thread?
Sound advice , thank you
Of course this advice only works if your doctor is 100% clued up on PMR. Evidence from this forum is that very many aren't.
Indeed. And even if they’re PMR savvy in general it doesn’t always mean their tapering methods reflect that. When I was diagnosed (2017) my rheumatologist followed the one-size-fits-all guidance at her medical center: reduce by 1 mg per month. When my very first reduction caused a flare, I told her about the slower methods I’d read about here. She said after our chat that she would trust me to handle my own reductions and would write prescriptions in whatever strength was needed. Within a few years she was offering slower methods to her patients who had problems tapering down their prednisone.
