So, after 10 months on pred for PMR I have reduced from 24 to 12 mg. From the beginning, although greatly improved, I was never pain free, with some shoulder, hip, neck and thigh pain almost every day.
Now, however, at 12mg, I feel much better, and am able to exercise at the gym and have very little pain after the morning stiffness goes away. I feel better on 12 than I did on 18mg!
This disease just gets curiouser and curiouser!

Yup, it does. If we patients are confused by our condition no wonder the doctors have so much trouble getting our treatment right! Perhaps in your case the disease itself is less active, plus you might have had some subtle reaction to pred at the higher dose which has now lessened. Sounds like win win to me! Onward and upward!
It could just be that the pmr inflammation is finally matching up with pred dose. There have been levels I struggled at and other do okay. At the end of the day that's what the pred is for...clearing out daily inflammation, not curing the pmr. If you drop to 9mg too soon you might have a blip because it may still need most pred cos inflammation higher.
