Hi All,

I started taking pregabalin two and half weeks ago. I am on the lowest dose(25mg twice a day). It making my mouth so dry though. It has gotten to the point that my mouth is now sore and I have cuts in my gums. I am not really sure what to do. I think I might just have to stop taking it at this point. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do?

Yes I get bad dry mouth and the sleepies. I use Biotene. I keep it on my bed stand. I have had P.N.E. for 20 years. I have been taking pregabalin for two month. It has giving me the ability to get moving more. I all so just gotten a spa tub in my own backyard, and that is great. Am feeling better.

Pregabalin was a horrible medication for me. I had the same side effect plus many more. It was terrible for my mental state of mind up till a point a didn’t want to live anymore. Some people do very good on it.

I heard you have to drink a lot more water when you take Pregabalin. I'm on 150mg daily at the mo. I drink a pint as soon as I get up and a lot more throughout the day that might help some? Treated myself to a sodastream machine, fizzy water and lemon juice makes it much nicerX x

Hi. Yes I had exactly this problem it made me so thirsty and a dry mouth. Plus it made me put 4 stone on. I too started on 25mg and they kept increasing it upto 300mg daily but it didn’t really do much to help the pain. I tapered off it 6 months ago and very pleased to be off of it, didn’t like it at all. Sorry that’s probably not what you want to hear and it may work well for others but I feel I was put on it by my old GP in an attempt to avoid opioids. However I’ve changed GP now and they actually want to help manage my pain and do prescribe an opioid but it’s a very low dose and actually does work. Best wishes to you.

I had a bad experience with it to. Dry mouth, gained a lot of weight, brain zaps and it didn’t help my PNE at all. I stopped using it as well after a month or so.

I didn't do well on it at all I didn't last a week . Dry mouth and I felt very weird mentally. For some people it works fairly well and if you having side effects I recommend that you speak to your doctor. Hope you find a med that works good for you.

If you are having side effects at 25 mg, it is going to be really bad at 300 mg. As people in pain looking for relief, we fail to speak up about side effects. I suggest you go back to tge doctor and say "next". Docs have multiple options and work through the list to find what works for your body. Mine is baclofen suppositories.

I’m sorry to read this.

Can I just suggest you consider stopping the Pregabalin tablets.

Doctors use the as pain killers when they were designed for nerve pain.

However they have lots of side effects and long term can affect your brain.

I’m that you would will a higher dose start to become confused and have difficulty with memory issues.

Please do some research on this Pregabalin as well as the older medication Gabapentin.

I’ve taken both in the past and they are not worth the risk. xx

Good luck.

Pregabalin works very well for me. Have you tried using a toothpaste designed for use when you have a dry mouth such as biotene dry mouth toothpaste? It has made a big difference so I'd recommend trying that to alleviate the sty mouth symptoms, but do talk to your doctor or your pharmacist about side effects.

I was on pregabalin for 3 years for pelvic pain and I stopped because they dont work. The doctors feel better by giving you something for it but you'll find no medication works. Well I did. Only cannabis does it for me. Mines psychosomatic they say so I'm on duloxetine nor sure if they're raising my mood though. Swimming in thecsea also helps so it seems joy is a big help and not talking about the pain all the time. My doc at the pain clinic said 'motion is lotion' Norma

Hi there, yes pregabalin does make your mouth dry and thirsty. My daughter has been taken it for 3 years now started low and is now on 125 mg twice a day. Drink plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated do coconut oil pulling by having a teaspoon of oil in your mouth and swish it around for 10 seconds repeat a few times a day. Your gums will heal.
